7000 runs is where the real records start. Mostly because anything below that is dominated by a rubbish bloke from 80 years ago.

Steve Smith with 121 innings has 9 innings to score 212 runs to become the fastest ever to 7000 runs, beating Walter Hammond who did it in 131 innings.
Fastest ever? Shouldn't really be surprising really considering Don didn't get 7000

edit: wizarded by stephen

He has now scored more than 500 in 3 consecutive Ashes, which even the Don could not accomplish. (thanks Jardine)

Really reaching now lol

Bradman could have scored 500+ in 5 series in a row except he missed a test in 1938. Still made 434 runs @ 108.50 that series though.

He’d have passed 900 this series if he hadn’t missed Leeds. Sure you can say he may have got a pair, but literally no one in the world knows how to get the **** out so unless he makes a mistake, once he’s faced 15-20 balls you may as well just bend over and prepare yourself.

Maybe he goes ham in the last one and makes it anyway, only 311 runs off

Leading Aussie run scorers in a series (5 test series unless otherwise stated)

1. Bradman 974
2. Taylor 839 (6)
3. Harvey 834
4. Bradman 810
5. Bradman 806
6. Smith 769 (4)
7. Bradman 758
8. Bradman 715
9. Ponting 706 (4)
10. Chappell 702 (6)

Smith with 589 runs so far should make it somewhere in this top 10.

This has to be up there with the worst Ashes for openers of all time? If you take away Burns the numbers are Australia in Sri Lankaesque

Best thing about openers in that series was when Warner hit his first ball of the third test for six (10th team innnigs of the series), immediately making that partnership the (at that point) joint-highest opening stand in the series

Possible milestones/records due in 5th test

Cummins needs 3 wkts for 50 Ashes wkts

Lyon needs 23 runs and Head needs 146 runs for 1000 test runs

Starc needs 4 wkts to be equal 12th with Siddle on Aussie wkt list (219 wkts)

Smith needs 130 runs for 7000 runs, which would be the fastest ever to 7000

Smith needs a century to become only the 2nd player ever to get 4 Ashes centuries in England (Bradman the other)

Norwood's on Fire
We are reaching a point where future CW drafts will have to have a 'Steve Smith rule'

Pat Cummins has reached an ICC rating of 914, equal 5th best all time with McGrath. If he has a good last test he could become the highest rated Australian bowler ever.

Typically, he got a 3 wicket haul.

He's probably had the best series ever for a bowler without a 5 wicket haul.
