Dev League Career Options

Given the likelihood of imbalanced squads for the upcoming season, the CWBCC has worked with Daniel Towns to develop career options for players to reinvigorate or kickstart their Development League careers, whilst serving their teams more effectively.

It's hardly a secret that there is a distinct lack of batting talent in the league right now. At least as compared to bowlers. So these options exist primarily to encourage those seeking a more pleasant future with the bat.

A. Retirement
Applicable: >=5 years of service

Players with 5 or more seasons of service to Development League cricket have the option of retiring and returning as a new player. This player may or may not carry the same name as the retired player. If the same name is used, a "jr" would be attached, however.

This option allows players who have endured long seasons of service but were never able to rise from mediocrity. It is an option for a new start, with a better understanding of the rookie adjustments and signup protocol.

There are no restrictions on player type, so a bowler may retire and return as a rookie batsman or the like.

B. Young Career Conversion
Applicable: <35 games (combined format)

"Young" players with a combined number of games (OD and FC) of less than 35 would be allowed to switch their career path. Bowlers may convert to batting allrounders and allrounders may convert to specialist batsmen.

Breakdown:
1. Bowler to Batsman
- 15 added to batting and 20 to bowling.

Code: 
Example:- A bowler at 12/26 would average 30/45 after 3 seasons. Batting (12 + 15 + 3 = 30). Bowling (26 + 20 - [0.33 x 3] = 45).
2. Allrounder to Batsman
- For batting simming average under 30, 10 added to batting an 15 added to bowling.
- For batting of 30-39, 5 to batting and 10 to bowling.
- For batting of 40+, 2.5 to batting and 5 to bowling.
- Maximum initial adjustments at 45 batting.

Code: 
Example:- 
1. An allrounder at 27/27 would average 40/41 after 3 seasons. Batting (27 + 10 + 3 = 40). Bowling (27 + 15 - [0.33 x 3] = 41).
2. An allrounder at 35/35 would average 43/44 after 3 seasons. Batting (35 + 10 + 3 = 48). Bowling (35 + 5 + 3 = 43). Bowling (35 + 10 - [0.33 x 3] = 44).
3. An allrounder at 42/42 would average 47.5/46 after 3 seasons. Batting (42 + 2.5 + 3 = 47.5). Bowling (42 + 5 - [0.33 x 3] = 46).
C. Experienced Career Conversion
Applicable: >35 games (combined format)

Breakdown:
1. Allrounder to Batsman
- Bowling ability is relinquished and set to a SR of 100.
- Batting simming average is boosted by 5 points.
- The player may then receive full batting experience points (1 point per season served after transition).

Code: 
Example:- An allrounder at 27 batting and 27 bowling would average 35 batting after 3 seasons (27 + 5 + 3 = 35). His/her bowling skill will remain largely negligible.
2. Bowler to Batsman (where a bowler is <20 batting average)
- Bowling ability is relinquished and set to a SR of 100.
- Batting simming average is boosted by 3 points.
- The player may then receive full batting experience points (1 point per season served after transition).

Code: 
Example:- A bowler at 15/26 would average 21 after 3 seasons (15 + 3 + 3 = 21). Bowling skill will remain largely negligible.
D. Gradual Conversion
Applicable: Anyone

Breakdown:
1. Bowler/Allrounder to Batsman
- 2 points added to batting.
- 4 points deducted from bowling skill (ie, added to average).
- 1 batting experience point per season/0.5 bowling experience deduction.

Code: 
Example:- An allrounder at 25/29 would average 30/34.5 after 3 seasons. Batting (25 + 2 + 3 = 30). Bowling (29 + 4 + [0.5 x 3] = 34.
5).

Tried to make this all as simple as possible.
All applications should be made as soon as possible. No conversions will be allowed during the season.

Just one thing, if someone converts from an allrounder/bowler to a batsman, do they pick their own position in the batting line up again or is it randomly assigned?

Just a thought, Liam, but do we have the List-A stats updated? It would be good for the people to get an idea of exactly what their stats would end up being close to.

We have a lot of bowlers, but not very many batsmen at the moment. So changing from batsman to allrounder would give us more bowling, less batting, and that just worsens the already unbalanced squads.

Will get around to it soonish. Unless someone else wants to do it for me? :down: Between CW (club cricket, news updates etc.), work and university, I'm pretty tied up right now.

In that case, I will cast off the bowling aspect of my game and become a specialist bat. I want to so a Mark Richardson (except not batting as slowly) and I've always fancied myself an opener even though I'm crap, so yeah, that'd be cool, cheers.

very nice...considering young bugs jnr has joined it sounds good, but also the choice to change and better your career is excellent, and cw will only get stronger i feel.

With Dwyer's bowling going down the pan (and batting likewise spiralling upwards) we might need a spinning allrounder this season, for the trips to Black and Green. I'd suggest you stay as you are, we seem to have a decent allotment of middle order batsmen already.

As for luffy: we need proper openers, not Ronnie Iranis.
