I really like this Windies batting lineup, however I think they're gonna be lucky to get away with just the 3 strike bowlers in future matches.
But who do you take out? because all the West Indian batsmen are performing.
Drop Hinds and have Lara opening. They are clearly a batsman heavy so you'd drop Hinds I'd say.

I don't think they'd open with Lara, I think Hinds would be the one to go but Chanderpaul would probably be the likely candidate to open since he has opened for the West Indies not so long ago.

What about Jacobs? He's wasted coming in with 2 or 3 overs to go and he has had all his ODI success opening. Last WC he played really well. He can be used in an attacking role.

Agreed, Hinds is only player who's place is in doubt who didnt perform in some format today so he has to go though i think lara might well open next game!what bout movin Sarwan up?

What about Chanders?

And surely Marlon Samuels ought to be in the first XI?

Gayle
Chanderpaul
Lara
Sarwan
Hooper
Samuels
R Powell
Jacobs
Dillon
Drakes
Collins/Lawson/McLean

I think its crazy to go into a match with only 3 main bowlers & then hope that 2 or 3 part-timers will chip in aswell.

The Windies got away with it today but we'll see how much longer in the tournament they continue with this.

Despite his knock today, Powell would be the fall guy for me.

I'd also look at trying to get an extra bowler in, but that would mean a batsman goes?

How about Lawson for Hinds (Chanderpaul opens) and Samuels for Powell?

I think for the next match it should be:

Gayle
Chanderpaul
Lara
Sarwan
Samuels
Hooper
Jacobs
Dillon
Drakes
Collins
Lawson

To me, Powell doesn't look like an all-rounder, he's probably handy enough to bowl 2 or 3 overs but I doubt you'd get 10 out of him.

Powell is an excellent fielder and a better bowler than people give him credit for. Alos, the guy scored 40 off 18 against a high quality bolwing attack! He's in great form...how can you justify dropping him?

Yeah, obviously the West Indies have a good problem because all their batsmen are in form..but I tell you, you can't play too many more games with only 3 main bowlers so something has to suffer.

The West Indies were well on top at 160/6 but they ran out of bowlers & in the end it got a bit too close for comfort.

I suppose they need to pick between Samuels & Powell because Hinds should make way for another quick bowler.

WI must consider themselves lucky to have won the game against SA with just 3 specialist bowlers!! WI will have to go into the next game with atleast 4 specialist bowlers, i would say that Lawson should be in the team in place of Hinds.Lara could open the innings for WI.

What a super game!! Lara's innings was class, and Powell proved to people why he can be so dangerous.

Go Windies!!!!!! I would love to see them do well, really well.

Perhaps dropping Hinds for Samuels, with Chanderpaul opening?

Your thoughts??

Guys....chilll....and stop dissing Ricardo Powell 8D :cool2: , I've said it before and I'll say it again: I think he is a better batsman than Samuels in ODIs, I think if anybody has to go it has to be either Hinds or Chanderpaul.....if WI are to drop Hinds I see Sarwan as the best alternative to open because he has a good solid technique and can score quickly. Don't move Lara up to open whilst he striking form at No.3.
How in the world is Lawson not playing ????? he isa better bowler than Collins I think because although he may give away more runs than usual he is more penetrative and dangerous.
