Does anyone know if Burgey is okay? Although he posts the most infernal drivel in between the intelligent cricket stuff he doesn't tend to disappear just because Australia are struggling.

Archer just had to bowl a lot more than he would have had it been a full day.
Someone needs to explain to Root that:
1. He can't be bowling Archer into the ground if he wants him to play more than a couple of tests in a series
2. In some circumstances, other bowlers offer as much or maybe even more. Woakes has been seriously under-bowled in this test, not least on the first evening and the second morning.

For all that, it ended up being a fine test match. Big plusses in the return to batting form of Stokes and Bairstow and the emergence of you-know-who. Burns' on-going contributions also a big plus.

As for the ongoing weaknesses with the batting, Sibley and Northeast making a grand total of two runs between them today means there probably won't be any new faces just yet.

Great test. Shame weather ruined it. Seriously hope Smith is OK and presume he can't play next week but hope he is fine for OT.

As for Archer I think him and Cummins will be a sight to behold in the future. Both look the real thing. Pray both stay fit.

Good to wake up to joe root continuing the Strauss tradition of england captains claiming bounced catches at Lord’s. I suppose he had to do something to have an impact on the game.
