Combined XI from the first test

What is your combined XI from the series so far?

Warner
Bancroft
Vince
Smith
Root (c)
Ali
Bairstow (wk)
Cummins
Starc
Hazlewood
Lyon

Anderson and Broad very unlucky. Not picking up a single wicket in the second innings hurt them.

Similarly Marsh can feel hard done by (for the first time in his life) but I felt like Ali's batting was fractionally ahead of his. Stoneman was a lock until the 4th innings.

There were very few standout performers from either side. Smith grabbing the only ton, Cummins and Lyon being the standout bowlers. A case could be made for an attack of Anderson, Broad, Cummins and Lyon but Haze picked up vital second innings wickets and Starc have Lyon some rough to bowl into.

Sorry but Starc bowled like an absolute drain and shouldn't be in a combined team.

No way would I have Starc in there, and even Haze bowled only two or three good spells. Broad and Anderson for both IMO. A lot of bowlers went around the wicket, so there's no need for the left-armer to create rough.

Swap Starc/Hazlewood for Anderson and Broad and I'd agree. Might be tempted to swap Warner for Stoneman also.

Other than the obvious Anderson/Broad in for Starc/Haze, shouldn't Marsh be ahead of Ali as well?

Edit: nvm, somehow forgot Ali scored a few runs in the first innings as well.

Ali actually looked one of the most comfortable batsmen in the entire game across both sides. Seemed to be able to time the ball much more easily than anyone else.

Root
Ali
Bairstow +
Cummins

Also gives us a proper #11 as it should be.

Bowlers (other than Lyon) the hardest choices. Starc probably least deserving of the XI, but his demolishing of the tail got him over the line.

Combined XI after two tests:

Warner
Stoneman
Khawaja
Smith
Root (c)
Marsh
Bairstow (wk)
Cummins
Starc
Anderson
Lyon

Anderson in ahead of Hazlewood. Stoneman in ahead of Bancroft. Khawaja in ahead of Vince. Marsh in over Ali. The rest unchanged.

The batting is really hard outside Marsh, Smith, Warner and Root. Stoneman has been a touch more consistent than Bancroft. Khawaja and Vince have been equally disappointing so far, but Khawaja's first innings 50 actually went a long way to us winning the game.

Anderson has been better than Hazlewood so far. Cummins has been the best bowler from either side and Starc has taken all the wickets. Lyon is the best spinner so far by miles. Honestly the only contentious picks really are Stoneman and Khawaja, who could easily be any from Bancroft, Malan, Ali or Vince who have all been roughly equally underwhelming so far this series.

12th man Stoneman (he could replace Anderson if extra batsman required.)
