Wow. They must have substantial evidence to arrest them from Switzerland and send them to US.

On Dec. 12, 2014, the defendant José Hawilla, the owner and founder of the Traffic Group, the Brazilian sports marketing conglomerate, waived indictment and pleaded guilty to a four-count information charging him with racketeering conspiracy, wire fraud conspiracy, money laundering conspiracy and obstruction of justice. Hawilla also agreed to forfeit over $151 million, $25 million of which was paid at the time of his plea.

A few FIFA officials saying "It is a sad day for football", ignoring that pretty much everyone else thinks it is a ****ing great day for football!

Top officials of FIFA undergoing trial in US after having been arrested and extradited from Switzerland avoids attention? Nah. It may be them trying to save their hides, but not avoiding attention.

From what I understand from the news, Americans are no longer content to simply mock soccer and are now arresting everyone responsible.

A relief to see that good old Sepp is in the clear, after all what can he be expected to have been aware of after the best part of 20 years in charge?

If Blatter survives this, is this the biggest chance to get rid of him missed, or is the start of a wall crumbling?

I'm sure the timing of the arrests to occur just before the vote wasn't coincidental, but Sepp is coated with Teflon.

I can't see how any president who's been at the very best (to take the charitable, non-legally actionable view) unaware of pandemic corruption that's gone on throughout his reign can survive, but after Qatar nothing FIFA ever does will surprise me again.

England making noises - such as Gill refusing to join the FIFA panel - but stopping short of telling FIFA that we don't want to take part in their 4 yearly humiliation fest.

Alas countries like Germany won't turn their back, because they actually win the thing so they don't mind. One feels Spain and Italy don't share the same indignation as the rest of us at corruption.

As an Englishman, it pains me to say we need the French to side with us and make a stand. Whilst their politicians are making the right noises (well, sheep can bleat in tune), it could do with Platini taking a strong stance and encouraging the smaller European nations to side with us. Whilst Europe is only a small voting bloc in FIFA, if the whole continent was to physically part from the organisation, our prestigue and sponsorship power would be too big a blow to the rest. At the moment they are staying in line because Blatter is the man who dishes out that money pot, and don't want to be on the wrong side of him.

Isn't UEFA already somewhat on the wrong side of FIFA? I was under the impression that Blatter gets pretty much all of his support from South America/Africa.

As one understands Eastern Europe, and especially Russia, are fans.

This may or may not be connected to the award of 2018.

In Blatter's defence he did vote against Qatar for 2022. Unlike Fatini.

There is a fair chance of that being planned as well.
