Group 1 Second Round - Sri Lanka, England, South Africa, New Zealand, Netherlands

Awesome stuff from the Dutch.

Beaten England, should have beaten South Africa and gave New Zealand a decent game. Clearly the way forward for cricket is to ensure that these pesky upstarts don't get to play in further world cups #brokenrecord #notgoingtoletitgo

As for England? The worst part of it is that I'm not surprised at all. It's what happens when you pick a joke squad though. We've picked all these limited overs "specialists" who are actually complete hacks, and we've put class players like Anderson and Cook in the "not for T20" basket. Are people seriously telling me that Michael Lumb or Jade ****ing Dernbach are better players than those two? Because they're not.

What England do have is a scheduling problem though. The IPL clashes with the early summer so England's top players can't play IPL without it impacting the Test side, and our T20 is badly scheduled so that the top Test players don't have time to play domestic T20. Stuart Broad, England's T20 captain, has had a First Class career that's now 9 years old. In that time, he's played 18 domestic T20 matches. James Anderson, who's been playing First Class cricket since T20 started, has played just 21. Ali Cook, who's had the most opportunity to play, has played 26 games. Both Cook and Anderson are entering their 12th season of First Class cricket, those are absolutely pathetic numbers. By way of comparison, Virat Kohli has played 115 domestic T20 games, and Warner's played 114. Is it any surprise that they're much better T20 players when they actually spend so much more time playing T20 cricket?

Then of course, those players that do play domestic T20 cricket in England are playing in a system that has too many teams, too many players and a severe lack of top quality domestic and international players. It's a breeding ground for mediocrity, and it's hardly surprising that England's players who's only exposure to international cricket is via T20 cricket are ****ing woeful.

Haha, wow. What a score to wake up to. And with Williamson scoring 42 of them! May have laughed out loud on the bus to work.

Heh, interesting scorecard to wake up to. I guess noone should be that surprised that we lost a knockout v Sri Lanka - even when we beat them in the Champions Trophy our batting almost lost the game. Anderson not being able to bat a big loss too.

Not a surprise really. We've been short of one specialist batsman all tournament (especially given Anderson's curious problems in t20 cricket). It cost us against SA, and while I doubt it would've made any difference here, it certainly wasn't good that Neesham came out to bat inside the power play. I reckon either Latham or an experienced campaigner should come into bat at 5.

Just not true. Sennanayake does chuck and I am a part of the Murali never chucked brigade.
so have you proved that then ?? my point was that until he is proved to be chucking(if that is the case- which i dont think is correct) then it is b******s.

I don't know whether he actually does chuck it or not but to the naked eye, Senanayake's action looks diabolical
i can see your point of view but surely if it is illegal, considering that he has been playing at the top level for a while now,why hasnt he been reported and investigated- having said that Murali was investigated twice and cleared both times but there are still idiots who claim the results were wrong..:wallbash:

dont you know Sri Lanka cant beat anyone without cheating? :no2: We're also that lucky that if we bought a lottery ticket we wouldnt have to play cricket- having said that the board would still probably thieve 90% of it!!

Just watched the "highlights". Some utterly woeful, brainless dismissals. Went into full blown panic mode - standard fare for us in crunch World Cup games.

Also, for the good of humanity, can someone please shut Danny Morrison up? It's beyond nauseating.

Yeah and to think he wasn't even in the squad until Ryder decided to have a drink.
I'm with Furball, piss off with so called specialist and pick your best cricketers, which both Williamson and Boult are. It's all well and good whocking sixes on 60m grounds against second rate cricketers, it's another thing doing it against international quality. Glad the selectors and Hesson saw the light in that regard with these two. Shame they missed it with a guy like Watling (and we would've beaten South Africa with him playing insteand of Wonkie)

Big time choke last night though, sadly it's what New Zealand do these days. Games you should win just tossed away with panic and braindead batting.

Argggh, horrible to wake up to this. Especially the news that Anderson, who is one of NZ's better players of spin, couldn't bat (and will miss IPL).

Interesting also that an anti-dew chemical was used on the ground for this game, but hasn't been used previously in the tournament.
