heres my report, but its a bit over 100 words, hope you dont mind;

Northern Districts have sprung one of the biggest upsets of all time when they defeated South Australia by 5 wickets here yesterday.

The ND team, at impossible odds, ripped through the South Australia batting line-up the easily scored the runs with a humiliating 24 overs to spare.

The day didnt start well for the South Australians, who won the toss and elcted to bat first. After just three runs, David Fitzgerald was caught off Aldridge. It got worse for the Redbacks, who were expected to easily account for the NZ team.

Only Greg Blewett (45 off 67) and Darren Lehmann (43 off 43) showed any resistance to the ND bowling, spearheaded by an amazing perfomance of Aldridge, who took career best figures of 6-31 off nine overs.

The defeat was complete when Hart scored the winning runs, after a good start given by H.Marshall (39 off 56). But, it was the performance of Aldridge that changed the game and gave the team an unlikely victory over a team having the champagne already on ice for what they saw as 'inevitable victory'.

"We let ourselves down today, with both our batting and bowling, and its something we will have to address in the forthcoming training sessions." said coach Scott Lowe. When an SA player walked by moments later, we witnessed the loudest tirade of abuse and swearing we have ever heard.

Northern Districts coach trueblueyork could not be reached for comment, as he was probably dancing foolishly at his lucky victory :)

This has put a serious dent in the SA title aspirations, and given ND a fantastic start to the competition they were expected to struggle in.

Okay.. just found this forum :cheesy:. Time to wake up I reckon!

Somerset kicked off their D2 campaign with a surprise win over hot favourites Tasmania.

It didn't start too brightly for the Sabres as they struggled to 126/4, with only Andy Flower (67), who clearly got lost on his way to Essex and ended up at Taunton, putting up any resistance. However, it all soon changed as Michael Burns and Keith Parsons crashed an unbroken 164 run partnership to leave the hosts on 290/4.

Tasmania also started poorly, Keith Dutch helping to reduce them to 76/4 before a rapid 45 from Kremerskothen and 77* from Marsh saved the favourites from total embarrassment but the final total of 258/7 was 32 short come close.

Mumbai :May 19:
A fine all round performance by Mumbai All rounder A.Dani and a lack lusture batting performance by Western Australia saw Mumbai romp home to a 3 wicket win here on saturday. On a rank turner the western Aus batsmen failed to apply themselves managing only a partly 166 on board.Batting first, which looked to be a distinct advantage, only Katich and Hussey looked to be in command as Dani ripped through the australians top and middle order.A thing for worry for the Mumbai camp would be the poor performance of their spinners on a turning pitch.
The Mumbai inns got off to a fine start with Jaffer and Dani putting on 48.But a sudden middle order collapse left the home team 96-5 and the visitors with a sniff of victory. But cautious batting by the late order saw the team through and left the coach all smiles.
Later, the Mumbai coach agreed that though not a convincing win it was satisfying all the same.He also said the upcoming away matches would be a test of the adaptability of the team but indicated he was confident of a good performance.

Yorkshire v Lancashire.

Lancashire batted first, but got off to a poor start with Chilton failing to trouble the scorers.
Fellow opener Swann smashed a quick 33 off 41 balls before he was the second wicket to fall at 59/2.
Then came the partnership that put Lancs on top as Fairbrother (72) and Dravid (41) put on 84 for the third wicket. Lancs were 143/3 when Dravid went.
The only other innings of note was the allrounder Flintoff who held the innings together after Fairbrother was run out. Flintoff ended with 26no as Lancs completed their 50 overs at 207/7.
White was the pick of the home bowlers with 3/40.

Yorkshire could only score 99 all out in reply as wickets fell with monotonous regularity.
Byas top scored with 25 while P.Martin showed that there's still life in those old bones yet as he finished with 4/5 off 5 overs. Chapple picked up 3/24 off 7 overs in support.

Flintoff was named man of the match, scoring 26no and picking up 2/28.

Visiting manager GrahamB was ecstatic following his side's win, but was quick to remind fans of both teams that the season was just early. :cheesy:

Eyes not spreadsheets
A poor top order performance led to a comfortable defeat for Warwickshire against Queensland.
Only Knight batted well, as the Bears lost wickets at regular intervals, and the eventual total of 180 looked at least 50 short of a good score.

Bichel's accuracy was outstanding, conceding just 15 off the 9 overs he had, with young Noffke taking 4-40 off a full complement.

Queensland cruised to a 9 wicket win with 14 overs to spare, thanks to a fine opening stand between Maher (66 off 84) and man of the match Hayden (83 off 93).

After this first match, the Bears must work hard to keep themselves up.

welcome to sports 2nite with bill woods, lets cross to an earlier interview we had with blues coach bugssy malone

bugssy welcome
no worries tim

good start to the season

yer tim it ws good, look this comp is definately a great comp to be a part of with i feel not 1 easy game. we played well and a few of the boys really did step up for us on the 1st game. a few boys where a little dissapointing and had some bad luck with the waugh bros not scoring many but we still won which are good signs and shows the depth we have in nsw cricket at the moment

bill: bevan yet again another fine innings

yes bill he is just a true fighter, he placs it and times it from the word go and in my eyes he is the best one day bat in the world.
his innings this weekend really got us over the line which at one stage looked like a tricky situation, 2- 18 and 3 - 49 and 4 - 81 it wa sin the balance but his 82(81) really showed his dominance in the od arena.
s lee also batted well with 44.
bill: b lee back to his best u think.
yer look bill, he is a quality bowler with just great pace, he bowled well this weekend and picked up 4 - 47, mcgrath was his usuall self and macgilland braken both got 2.
it was a goodw in against hampshire who i feel will go very well this year.
bill: look thanks for your time bugssy and go those might blues.

yer thanks mate a leasure

bill: that was bugs malone , coach of the nsw blues and will be speaking to bugssy every time the blues play at home in the season ahead.

i think this part is crucial for the pbm to work. its good to hear what home sides say about the games, and what away sides feel of the home sides efforts etc.

lets get into it guys. :D

Theyre Having Fun :D
Martin Crowe
Times News Network

It was obvious that the ND team was having helluva lot of fun in practice today when the first thing i saw when i walked in was instead of giving catching practice to Robbie Hart behind the stumps,Manager Trueblueyork plonked his foot outside the off-stump and blasted tuffey over the midwicket fence....tuffey and hart werent too amused but styris and aldridge were laughing like there was no tomorrow.

I asked Aldridge what trueblueyork was like.the reply came quick,"hes rather a light-mooded person,v.humorous and keeps the squad mood up".at this juncture trueblueyork came in and said "enough ald,no need of more butter to win first team places,ur perfomance has done it"with some bit of amusement, aldridge went on to get some bowling practice.

so wt do u think of the win against SA?

im very pleased with the boys for this perfomance.i knew i had some world-beaters when they beat australia in a warm-up match.well be pushing hard for promotion.

many ppl are saying SA performed badly wt do u think of that?

thats roobish.plain roobish.i know SA can do better but there wasnt nething they couldve dont considering the way aldridge bowled....absolutely nothing.it was our good perfomance that won the match for us not SA performing badly this is just the work of some insane reporters who do not want to credit ND with a good perfomance.

wt are u looking forward to now?

well obviously its the second round....weve got Worcs, although we are very confident,we havent written em off.they have some gr8 players esp.hick and warne so wed better watch out.but obviously we have home advantage and we are hoping to make it count.and then its off to Queensland where we take on worcs yet again so were looking good , very good.

thanks for ur time TBY,we expect to see many gr8 things from u and ur ND side...

np m8 my pleasure :D:D:D
