Bet Warney would have wished he pissed off to the Old Blighty a few years earlier.

England 0-5. Ultimate infiltration job by CA. Well done! The ultimate cricketing trojan horse.

Buchanan was an awesome coach compared to the joke Nielsen is now. He's got the right ideas and is not afraid to put it out there. If we had followed his T20 specialist plan, we'd still be in the WC right now.

Yeah, as much stick as he got for what he did to KKR, comparing him to Nielson is like Alex Ferguson being compared to Phil Brown.

Jury is well and truly out on Buchanan

A trained chimp could've produced similar results to his with both Qld and Oz

However, just about the only times he's faced a challenge (Middlesex and KKR), things have ended in tears

I couldn't really care less about Buchanen and don't really care who he works with.

I just don't think of him as a traitor; although I probably would think of Warne as a traitor of sorts if he took up a similar role.

Despite his success with the Aus team, he's never really gathered a lot of like or respect from the Australian fans.

cheers

Well and truly agree. Buch came in and quit at the right time.

Though clearly Buchanan did not change Australia from a moderate side to a superlative one, it's very possible he did play a fair part in changing them from a superlative side to a very superlative one.

Of course, he came and went at the same time. And of course, his methods are highly specific ones which, though they worked on the Australian team of his time, may very well not work on plenty of others - eg, Middlesex.

To suggest he's eons above Nielsen would be wrong, as with roles reversed results would probably be precious little different.

Comparing Buchanan to a more "conventional" coach who is perceived as successful (ie, Bobby Simpson and Geoff Marsh) would be more instructive.

You can't get any better than being a superlative side tbh

Agree with the above, though

Warne calling it an advantage for Australia in the press

To paraphrase: "He takes simple things and makes them more complicated than necessary"

You'd think Warne might've got the impression that most people are pretty sick of his moaning on and on and on and on and on and on and on about Buchanan.

Actually, no, you probably wouldn't think that, because Warne often fails to get the impression.

Yup, Nielsen's stats might look pretty inferior when compared to Buchanan's all conquering coaching record, but the fact is, even Neilsen' record would have looked glossy, if he had the kind of players Buchanan had during his tenure to work with.

As for the topic of discussion, appointing Buchanan just before the Ashes is the best thing England can do for Australia before the start of the series, a decision that's likely to do them more harm than doing any good, England better watch out for that boot camp of his...

Buchanan's the Australian Clive Woodward IMHO.

Tried all sorts of bollocksy "out there" crap that happened to coincide with a team of rare talent and was only to happy to misattribute the success of his side to the aforementioned bollocks.

Neither coach or their bollocks has looked so effective since with inferior players.
