Worst Nation of the decade?

Incidentally this was poor Kulkarni's first test. He got a wicket off his very first delivery on debut and he could have been forgiven for thinking this test cricket thing was rather easy. The next wicket fell 576 runs later and he ended up with figures of 1 for 195.

Pretty much impossible to do for Australia, given that they only selected 50 players for the decade, 27 of whom have either a batting average of over 40, or a bowling average of under 30.

Ranjan Das and Moniruzzaman currently playing off for the title of worst cricketer of the decade. Maybe some Zimbabweans can put their hands up and join them...

Is that the worst that you can think of?
It is actually surprising how few genuinely awful players we have selected this last decade. It has mainly just been Bell getting caught at slip for 26.

I'm picking McGrath solely on the way he got dismissed to end his Test career, rabbit in South African headlights style.

Yeah, never lost back-to-back Test series until 2007 (India at home, Sri Lanka away) and then did it again in 2008-09 (three in fact, South Africa, India, West Indies).

TEST
Neil Ferreira- grinder who tried hard but was never going to succeed
Barney Rogers- not a test match opener, decent ODI record though
Alester Maregwede + woefully short of class
Vusi Sibanda- the mental strength of a village 2020 slogger
Stuart Matsikenyeri- better than most but embarrassing at times
Craig Evans- way past his best, and never that good in the first place
Mluleki Nkala *- bits and pieces
Graeme Cremer- taken apart like a young Bryce McGain
Keith Dabengwa- A couple of useful contributions, one of the better in the team
David Mutendera- Classic "who?" selection done in by politics
Waddington Mwayenga- a sad, sad case of poor selection

ODI
Cephas Zhuwawo- slogger who should never have played for Zimbabwe
Piet Rinke- ditto, with the proviso he could score against the weaker nations
Terry Duffin *- never an ODI batsman
Friday Kasteni- too young and scarred for life
Alester Maregwede- woefully short of class
Tinotenda Mawoyo- what did he do?
Tafadzwa Mufambisi + understandable but he still wasn't good enough
Richard Sims- textbook Zimbabwean bits-and-pieces offspinner
Keith Dabengwa- what has he done recently? what's his role?
Waddington Mwayenga- feel for the kid, always have done. Got a try-out at Worcester IIs recently
Tafadzwa Kamungozi oh dear. Made Cremer look amazing

I feel harsh picking the test side because several of those players have improved a fair deal since the last test Zimbabwe played. I have fewer qualms about picking an ODI side however I still feel pity rather than anger at the selection of these players.

Tests

Justin Marshall
Bell
Fulton
Richard Jones
Flynn
Elliott
Hopkins (wk)
Walker
Gillespie
Walmsley
Mason
12th man: Bradburn

Only Bell has a test century. None of the bowlers has a 5-fer, I believe.

Justin Marshall? He should be at number 9 shouldn't he

Gillespie took 5/136 against SA from memory

The Australian team will be tough to create for Tests. It will include pretty decent batsmen such as North, White, Rogers, Elliott and Blewett and possibly Love. Players who all would have had big Test careers playing for many other nations.

So it should be interesting to try for the worst of the best.
Yea that could work:

Elliot
Rogers
Blewett
Love
Symonds
White
McDonald
Manou
Bracken
Williams
Tait

12th man: Casson

Harsh on Rogers, Blewett, Love Tait & Roy...
