Your best draft sides

honestbharani

For all of you who have been involved in the various draft threads we have had, please post what you thought were your best draft sides.

Mine are:

From Random Country Draft:

Sanath Jayasuriya (SL) - 7000 odd runs @ 40, 98 wkts @ 34
Mudassar Nazar (Pak) - 4114 runs @ 38, 66 wkts @ 38
Martin Crowe (NZ) * - 5500 odd runs @ 45, 14 wkts @ 48
Mushtaq Mohammad (Pak) - 3643 runs @ 39, 79 wkts @ 29
Ken Barrington (Eng) - 6803 runs @ 59, 29 wkts @ 45
Clyde Walcott(WI) + - 3800 odd runs @ 57, 53 catches, 11 stumpings, 11 wkts @ 37
Tony Greig (Eng) - 3600 runs @ 40, 141 wkts @ 32
Shaun Pollock (RSA) - 3781 runs @ 32, 421 wkts @ 23
Ian Bishop (WI) - 632 runs @ 12, 161 wkts @ 24
Dennis Lillee (AUS) - 905 runs @ 13.71, 355 wkts @ 23
Bhagwat Chandrasekhar (IND) - 39 runs @ 4, 242 wkts @ 29

Just the amount of bowling options in that side is mind boggling. Truly bristling with players who can both bat and bowl..

From the first Scorecard Draft:

Vijay Merchant - 859 runs @ 48
Shane Watson - 1247 runs @ 37, 38 wickets @ 27
Bob Cowper - 2061 runs @ 47, 36 wickets @ 32 (HS of 307!!! )
Wally Hammond - 7249 runs @ 58, 83 wickets @ 38
Graeme Pollock - 2256 runs @ 61
Doug Walters - 5357 runs @ 48, 49 wickets @ 29
MS Dhoni - 2556 @ 42 @ 61 SR, 119 Catches, 21 Stumpings (c)
Richard Hadlee - 3124 runs @ 27, 431 wickets @ 22
Billy Barnes - 725 runs @ 23 (with a test hundred), 51 wickets @ 16
Johnny Briggs - 815 runs @ 19 (with a test hundred), 118 wickets @ 18
Shoaib Akhtar - 544 runs @ 11, 178 wickets @ 25 @ SR of 45

Is not a bad side either. Without the real marquee guys across generations but still a very very good line up capable of holding their own anywhere and against anyone.

And from the Calendar Draft :

Sanath Jayasuriya
Desmond Haynes
Vijay Hazare
Dennis Amiss
Graham Thorpe
Tony Greig
Adam Gilchrist (wk)
Richard Hadlee
Bob Willis
Mohammed ASif
Bishan Singh Bedi

Again even though lacking in star power a very very good solid side.

And this was a not a bad ODI side (from The Auction Draft for ODIs)

Shivnarine Chanderpaul - 8648 runs @ 42 @ 71 SR - 14 wkts @ 45 @ 5.2 ER - 73 Catches
David Boon - 5964 runs @ 37 @ 65
Ricky Ponting (c) - 12895 runs @ 43.12 @ SR 80.1 - 148 Catches
Javed Miandad (vc) - 7381 runs @ 42 @ SR of 67 - 7 wkts @ 42 w/ ER of 4.1 - 71 Catches - 2 Stumpings
AB De Villiers (wk) - 3603 runs @ 44 @ 89 SR - 63 Catches (Protea keepers don get many stumpings ;) )
Michael Hussey - 4207 runs @ 52 @ 88 SR - 80 Catches
Richard Hadlee - 1751 runs @ 22 @ SR of 76 - 158 wkts @ 21 w/ ER of 3.3 - 27 catches
Jason Gillespie - 289 runs @ 13 @ SR of 79 - 152 wkts @ 25 w/ ER of 4.2 - 10 catches
Waqar Younis - 969 runs @ 10 @ SR of 67 - 416 wkts @ 23 w/ ER of 4.68 - 35 catches
Ray Price - 73 wkts @ 35 w/ 3.88 ER
Courtney Walsh - 227 wkts @ 30 / 3.83 ER

Really liked my team from the Alphabet Draft:

Victor Trumper
Herbert Sutcliffe
Richie Richardson (c)
Greg Chappell
Graeme Pollock
Ian Botham
Bert Oldfield
Shane Warne
Zaheer Khan
Abdul Qadir
Dennis Lillee

Plenty of star power. But the 2nd and 3rd fast bowlers weren't quite up to the standard of these drafts, and runs from my 6-9 would be a problem.

Best one by miles was my side from the Calendar draft. Had an epic top six:

1) Barry Richards
2) Hanif Mohammad
3) Don Bradman
4) Ken Barrington
5) Javed Miandad
6) Hashim Amla
7) Ian Healy
8) Chaminda Vaas
9) Fazal Mahmood
10) Sonny Ramadhin / Abdul Qadir
11) Courtney Walsh

I'll reserve my reply on the basis that a couple of my better teams have players in them that haven't yet been picked in the current scorecard draft, and I wouldn't want to give the other participants any ideas. :-O

I played an all time test draft on another forum. It had about 35 participants (which is too many!), the players were required to have played minimum of 10 tests and no more than 2 players from any test nation were allowed. These conditions made it pretty tough draft game but finished with a decent side (according to me at least). This was the team:

Jeffrey Stollmeyer
Mohsin Khan
Patsy Hendren
Graeme Pollock
Dudley Nourse
Warwick Armstrong (c)
Vinoo Mankad
Imtiaz Ahmed (wk)
Sydney Barnes
Fred Spofforth
Roy Gilchrist

My favourite one was this one, which I drafted on a certain forum, with 22 participants, despite a disadvantage of not playing in the 1st season, and picked as in real life rather than all-time...

Barath
Pujara
Younis
Duminy

Hard to say which one is my favourite. The Auction draft was my first draft and that team won the sim so it was probably the most satisfying. Looking through the lineups, the Calendar draft team looks fairly strong.

I have participated in quite a few drafts, and always ended up with decent/good sides. But I personally think the best side I picked (keeping in mind the conditions of the draft etc.) was in the Auction Draft for ODI. As far as I remember, my playing XI was something like this:

Sanath Jayasuriya
Gary Kirsten
Inzamam-ul Haq
Mahela Jayawardena
Steve Waugh*
Michael Bevan
Mark Boucher+
Shaun Pollock
Chaminda Vaas
Shane Bond
Anil Kumble

Eyes not spreadsheets
I'm thinking another Auction draft might be in order soon, will wait for the scorecard to finish though.

I reckon Blakus has made some really good teams in the drafts he's participated in. Always plays it smart.

As for the auction draft, definitely interested.

I've only ever done one draft, and that was the Pre-War draft. Loved every minute of it, and was chuffed to bits with my team, which I quickly tried to mould into a team that people would pay to watch. Plus Woodfull.

Reggie Spooner
Archie Jackson
Alan Kippax
