ATP World Tour Finals - Doubles - Blue Group
Hayden Onwye/Ross Onwye vs. Heath Davis/Jojo Mustard
The qualification path for Heath Davis & Jojo Mustard has just got much harder as the match tiebreaker cost them again as they fell to second seeds Hayden & Ross Onwye. The Moroccan pair went a step closer to securing their spot in the semi finals with a second victory; taking the first set 6-3 after an early break of the Mustard service. As they've shown many times this season, the CWLand champs refused to say quit as they stormed back into the contest to take the second set 6-4 after the Morrocan brothers suffered a mix-up at the net. Nevertheless, it was the match tiebreaker where it had to be won for Davis and Mustard and the pressure proved too much as the second seeds escaped with a 6-3, 4-6, [10-6] win. Thanks to a later result, the path to qualification remained slightly ajar for Davis and Mustard but it will be very hard from here.

Sandro Bachunelli/Hicham Hadir vs. Andrej Konc/Evgeniy Maximov
Andrej Konc & Evgeniy Maximov have thrown away a golden opportunity to qualify for the semi finals of the World Tour Finals by giving up a set-to-love lead against Wimbledon champions Sandro Bachunelli & Hicham Hadir. The Slovak-Belarusian pair cantered to the first set 6-1, before leaving the door open for the Italian-Moroccan duo to stage a stunning turnaround. The Wimbledon champs earned a break in the second to take the set, before keeping their semifinals hopes alive with a 1-6, 6-3, [10-4] win.

ATP World Tour Finals - Singles - Blue Group
Daniel Páez Blanco vs. Rasmus Olesen
Paris champion Daniel Páez Blanco has bounced back from his opening day loss to Sven Oxenstierna by taming the Danish giant Rasmus Olesen in straight sets. Olesen has seemingly been making up the numbers this week, and his comprehensive 4-6, 4-6 loss to the World No. 2 means he cannot qualify for the semi finals on Saturday. Blanco looked more at ease on the Flushing Meadows courts than he did against Oxenstierna, and took the ascendancy from his opponent early. Olesen, meanwhile, struggled with his groundstrokes and allowed Blanco to control proceedings as he eased to a straight sets win with some majestic backhands.

ATP World Tour Finals - Singles - Blue Group
Radek Špidlá vs. Sven Oxenstierna
Sven Oxenstierna's poor record against the Czech Republic's Radek Špidlá has got worse as the CWLand sixth seed slumped to 0-4 against his fancied opponent with a three-set loss in Flushing Meadows. After upsetting the French Open champion, Oxenstierna came into this match looking confident as he stole an early break of service. But Špidlá hit back immediately as a forehand wrongfooted the Ox who sent an errant forehand into the tramlines. The break gave Špidlá the confidence to do it again as he served out the opening set 6-4. Oxenstierna recovered in the second, and again stole a break (this time in the fourth game) to set up a 6-3 scoreline. But the Czech Republic No. 1 regained his composure in the third and in his six service games did not give Oxenstierna an opportunity to break as at one point he won nine points on service in a row. Oxenstierna, meanwhile, was made to scrap to save six break points including four in one game to send the decider to a tiebreaker. There, the world No. 3 prevailed with a confident display to all but secure a spot in the semi finals 6-4, 3-6, 7-6(4). Oxenstierna is still in the box seat to qualify for the semis; a win over Olesen will be enough due to his head-to-head advantage over Blanco.

Meh.

Too galling that most matches with Shpidla are ridiculously close, too. Olesen will be chasing ranking points so won't be an easy beat.

ATP World Tour Finals - Doubles - Blue Group
Heath Davis & Jojo Mustard earned some consolation in Flushing Meadows, but it was never going to be enough to earn them a place in the semi finals despite their come-from-behind win over Sandro Bachunelli & Hicham Hadir. Already out of the running to make it to the semi finals, Drake and Mustard dropped the first set to the Wimbledon champions to ensure that they would have to break their third set hoodoo if they were going to avoid an 0-3 record for the week. It was one step at a time, though, as they came took the second set 6-4 thanks to a crucial break of the Hadir service. The match tiebreaker had thus far haunted Davis & Mustard, but they managed to do what few expected by playing consistent tennis to steal a 2-6, 6-4, [10-6] win and third place in the Blue Group. The Bachunelli/Hadir loss ensured that the contest between Andrej Konc & Evgeniy Maximov and Hayden & Ross Onwye would decide top spot with the Italian-Moroccan pair out of the running. In a lengthy affair, the Onwyes prevailed in three sets for the third time this week 6-4, 6-7(9), [10-8].

ATP World Tour Finals - Doubles - Blue Group
CWLand sixth seed Sven Oxenstierna may have suffered a second defeat of the week, but other results ensured that he qualified for the semi finals by the slimmest of margains. Needing only a victory to join Radek Špidlá in the semis of the singles draw, Oxenstierna struggled against Denmark's Rasmus Olesen and ultimately fell to a three-set defeat 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. The opening set victory, however, proved decisive as world No. 2 Daniel Páez Blanco fell just short of a win against the Czech Republic's Špidlá. Now needing nothing less than a victory, Blanco took the third seed to three sets but was outgunned in a tiebreaker for the second time of the match as he fell devastatingly short of qualification after throwing away his only match point in the second set. The loss meant Oxenstierna's 4-4 set win-loss record put him through, and had he not taken the first off Olesen he would have crashed out.

ATP World Tour Finals - Doubles - Semi Finals
Fourth seeds Jefferson Drake & Martti Korpinen will tomorrow compete in the biggest doubles match of their careers after they came from a set down to defeat second seeds Hayden & Ross Onwye to book a place in the doubles final. After finishing second in their group, the CWLanders looked on the brink of elimination after they dropped the first set 2-6 in a lacklustre display. But where they have at times fallen away under such pressure this season, the underdogs came back strongly with a tight second set which saw just one break point to each team - both of which were saved. The tiebreaker was just as close, but it was the CWLanders who kept their hopes alive to send the match to a deciding match tiebreaker. In another tense display, the Moroccan brothers just could not pull through to pick up a victory and allowed Drake and Korpinen to steal big points against serve to advance to the final 2-6, 7-6(5), [10-7]. In the final, they will face fellow Red Group team Hugh James & Ralph Robinson who slaughtered Andrej Konc & Evgeniy Maximov 6-0, 6-2 after the Belarusian-Slovak side failed to produce the same sort of high-tempo tennis they did the day before against the Onwyes.

ATP World Tour Finals - Singles - 1st Semi Final
Jason Hall vs. Sven Oxenstierna
Swedish-born CWLander Sven Oxenstierna has thrown away a perfect opportunity as he was beaten in three-sets by world No. 1 Jason Hall in the first semi final in New York. Already holding a 2-0 record over the top seed in all forms of tennis, Oxenstierna blew a 4-2 lead in the first set which ultimately cost him the match. Up a break early, Oxenstierna began to look shaky on serve and handed Hall a double break to allow him to help himself to the first set 6-4. But despite some thinking he might not recover from losing four games in a row, the CWLander rallied to snatch a late break of the Hall service in the second; Hall sending a forehand just long to drop his third set of week. But the world No. 1 hadn't been beaten yet, and quickly took control of the deciding set with a double break of serve. Whilst Oxenstierna got one back, it wasn't enough to avoid a frustrating 4-6, 6-4, 4-6 defeat to leave him wondering what might have been.

ATP World Tour Finals - Singles - 2nd Semi Final
Radek Špidlá vs. Radivoj Daneu
Much like in the doubles draw, the Red Group reigned supreme as fifth seed Radivoj Daneu advanced to the final with an upset 6-3, 7-6(3) win over third seed Radek Špidlá. The Serbian had made just two major finals in season I (Indian Wells and Miami) and was keen to arrest a late-season injury-assisted slump. Meanwhile, Špidlá was intent on at least exiting the first season with one big victory after two Grand Slam finals failures. Unfortunately for him, it wasn't to be as the Serbian continued his awesome warm up for next week's Davis Cup final by taming the Czech giant in straight sets to set up a re-match against the world's best player. After his two-and-four capitulation to Hall on Thursday, Daneu will look to lift in the final which will be played in a best-of-five set format.

Again, I did the report but Firefox crashed. Somehow, Bowenburg will be quietly happy about this.
