This is the story of Surrey County Cricket Club in 2007. I will be updating it only on the weekends.
The Story so far...
2002
A dissapointing Season results wise but a strong youth draft and the amount of players on England Duty made up for it considerably. For the Season Mark Ramprakash was appointed Captain, Graham Thorpe the Vice Captain. Veteran Alec Stewart was handed the gloves. The squad struggled with Injury allowing the younger kids more of an oppurtunity to prove themselves. Young 22 year old Batsman William (Bill) Neville did very well in the side and opened the batting with Mark Butcher for most of the season.
Results (End of Season)
County Champ Div 1.
Surrey 7th (Relegated)
National Legue Div. 2
Surrey 15th
Super Cup
Surrey Quarter Final
C & G Trophy
Surrey Round 4
2003
A season of change at Surrey with Alec Stewart retiring and Robert Key (Kent) and Owais Shah (Leics) joining the side. Both Captain and Vice-Captain were retained and Jonathon Batty filled the wicketkeeping spot. Butcher was out for most of the season with injury and Key took his spot brilliantly. Adam Hollioake settled into the other opening spot displacing young Neville who found his slot down the order. The bowling was the biggest dissapointment with only 3 regulars, Bicknell, Tudor and Ormond making any sort of impact.
Results (End of Season)
County Champ Div 2.
Surrey 18th
National Legue Div. 2
Surrey 14th
Super Cup
Surrey Quarter Final
C & G Trophy
Surrey Round 3
2004
A good year at Surrey, gaining promotion into County Champ Div 1. The biggest change in the team was Butcher's excellent return to form topping the Surrey Batting Lists. Also Waqar Younis joined the team as the overseas player adding to Surrey's already international class pace attack. Home Ground, The Oval was expanded to 20,000 capacity and a new pitch was installed. The new strip was found to be batsman friendly and totals over 400 were common.
Results (End of Season)
County Champ Div 2.
Surrey 12th (Promoted)
National Legue Div. 2
Surrey 17th

2005
An excellent season continuing the great form form last year. Into the side came Ryan Sidebottom (Yorks) and Robin Martin-Jenkins (Sussex) while James Ormond leave the team over contract issues. Also Martin Bicknell and Nadeem Shadid retired from playing, Bicknell taking over the youth coaching job. Butcher and Key batted well at the start of the innings again while Brown took the captaincy while both Ramprakash and Thorpe played for England. At the end of the season Injury and Fatigue struck leaving Surrey in 2nd position in the County Championship.
