This is a poll to decide the wicket-keeper for the 1877-1940 Test XI. There are only two options:

W/Keeper Matches Runs HS Average 100 50 Ct St Dis/T
Les Ames - 47 2434 149 40.56 8 7 6 74 23 2.06
Jack Blackham - 35 800 74 15.68 0 4 37 24 1.74

Blackham is often credited as being an extraordinary keeper but I'm voting for Ames.

The Prince of Wicketkeepers revolutionised the art of wicketkeeper, discarding the back-stop and standing up to the stumps for all but the most supremely fast bowling - and all this with grossly primitive equipment. My vote goes to Blackham.

ames. first, and so far only, wicket keeper to score 100 first class centuries. as good as a specialist batsman. apologies to blackham, a great cricketer no doubt. but ames it has to be.
