Tests first...

Openers
SG Fitzsimmons
R Twyman
The most accomplished opening partnership in CW XI history. An average of 52.75 per partnership.

Middle Order
A Cloete - for lack of a better explanation, "duh!"
E Moon - involved in the highest 4th and 5th wickets stands in Tests and an average of 50.25.
PE Young - a solid player for most of his career and a fine opening partnership with Fitzsimmons in his day.
J Toogood - just 9 Tests, but such a profound impact in those Tests.

Gloveman
AL Maddocks + - solid batting for an average of 32.19 with tidy glovework.

Allrounder
JE Sanders - 1000 runs and 100 wickets. No other Webhead comes close.

Bowlers
C Taylor - not the finest average, but such an impact in terms of effort and pace, with 81 wickets.
KS Wright - the one proven quality seamer of modern day Cricket Web.
NS Pickup - THE spinner of CWLand.

12th Man: RG Verghese

ODIs to come at a later date.

Absolutely thrilled to be named in Cricketweb's greatest ever test side. It is also nice to be considered a 'proven quality seamer'. Congrulations to all those who made the side also.

At least 9. Possibly 13-14. I'll have to double check that some time.
:) Thought he'd only kept in his retirement Test - hence why I didn't pick him. Probably the best choice.

My thoughts at this stage:

All-Time Cricket Web XI Test Team
R Twyman (2237 @ 34.42)
SG Fitzsimmons (2504 @ 29.81)
AP Cloete (4892 @ 50.43)
E Moon (2613 @ 50.25)
BJ Goff (2730 @ 31.02) (C)
PE Young (2202 @ 29.76) (wk)
JE Sanders (1076 @ 30.74; 107 @ 33.44)
C Taylor (538 @ 20.69; 81 @ 37.68)
DM Kennett (112 @ 5.09; 71 @ 29.03)
KS Wright (298 @ 7.10; 92 @ 34.26)
NS Pickup (269 @ 6.90; 155 @ 32.52)

Eddie is a good enough batsman to be considered a genuine allrounder, and it allows us to play an extra bowler. Butler was very close to making this team, even after just 18 Tests. Goff got through instead though, largely due to his captaincy.

Young got through ahead of Moerk due more to his longevity (albeit underachieving) with the bat, rather than his 'keeping per se. (Neither would get there on glovework alone.) Simon was a gun for most of his career, so he gets the second opening spot.

After our recent improvements in Test Cricket might be time to get the clob webs of this thread. Any changes you guys would make to the All Time XI. Hak and Thamba have started to put together a pretty good combination at the top of the order, but both still slighty inconsistent. Overall Twyman still the best opening batsmen we have produced, is his partnership with Simon enough for them to keep their spot.

The first three in the middle order pick itself these day with Goff, Cloete and Moon at 3-5. The last spot pretty open, with the options Butler, Toogood and Dauth in the frame. Have Dauth or Toogood done enough in their short careers. Butler is a lot more prove but struggled recently. There is the option of playing one of openers down the order with Young, Simon and Hak options. Or maybe playing two all rounders in Sanders and Wilson, or maybe the more proven Camps.

The bowling attack will is also quite open. Pickup would be the first guy pick, but who would be the others. Has Halsey done enough in his short career to warrant a spot. Not sure if Sanders was a spinner or seamer, if he was a seamer is three spinner too much. Kennett and Wright have probably still got the best records out of all the seamers, with the next best Taylor or Thomas really.

This would be my side, but im sure someone with more knowleadge would come up with a better side:

R Twyman
H Mork (wk)
B Goff (c)
A Cloete
E Moon
E Sanders
M Wilson
T Halsey
D Kennett
K Wright
N Pickup

Looking into the ODI All Time XI, for me the Top five basically picks itslef with Twyman, Markus, Cloete, Goff and Butler making up the top five. Dauth and De Silva both have had impressive starts to their career, but probably just miss out. The big question is who will open the batting. Apparently Twyman and Cloete had a pretty good record opening together, so they would be the favorites.

No. 6 will be filled by Liam Camps, by far the best ODI all rounder the country has produced. Malone also got a pretty good record, but Camps' superior bowling gets him over the line. The keeping spot is a toss up between Crampton and Chaulk. With having Chaulk sub 30 average and Crampton having a 40 plus averages, Crampton would get the nod for the moment.

The bowling spots are probably a lot harder to pick then you might think. Over the years CW has produced some quality ODI bowlers, if only for a short period. Broadbent, Halsey, Heath, Hoitnik, Hoy and Pickup have all averaged in the low 20s with the ball. Hoy, Halsey and Pickup are the most proven and have taken 50 plus ODI wickets. The last spot would probably go to Heath was does have a half decent batting record, as well as crazy e/r of 2.63.

My All Time XI:

R Twyman
A Cloete
B Goff (c)
I Markus
C Bulter
L Camps
A Crampton (wk)
E Heath
T Halsey
N Hoy
N Pickup

Swap Markus and Cloete and that looks about right. Remember that Cloete has not opened for most of his ODI career, whereas Markus has opened for all of his.

Heath = the Vic Marks of CW cricket.
