Pakistan 145, pretty justified since we are lucky if we can go though a week without a suicide attack.

Funnily enough the two times I have been mugged have been outside Pakistan(London and Rome ftr)

Outside the dataset. The Haiti earthquake isn't included either.
Bigoted view of peaceful, imo. List probably conceived by a bunch of vegetarian human-hating extremists whose eyes are covered in yesterday's tofu and feta meal left-overs so they can't see what a vindictive piece of **** Mother Nature actually is.

Didn't New Zealand have some fairly serious gang violence? I've heard a lot of stuff has gone on there that makes me surprised about it rolling it at number 1.. Definitely top 20, but I'm surprised it beat the Scandinavian bloc..

An impossible thing to quantify is 'peace'. This list looks fair enough to me though.. I guess you could look at the annual death by non-natural causes per capita, then remove things like road accidents, and you would have a good enough idea?

The Wheel is Forever
The list (whether true or not) is completely pointless. It doesn't really "tell" you anything about what it's like to live there. With all due respect to countries like Botswana, Bhutan or Rwanda - I don't particularly think most people would choose to live there over the US. I know perfectly well that this is not what it's measuring directly, but the list has no real value except to show off some arbitrary criteria.

A much better list would be something like the Human Development Index, which is a much better indication of the 'success' of a country:

The notion of 'peacefulness' is pretty nebulous and the number and variety of the variables they've used doesn't really assist in clarifying it. The 'about' section alludes to 'absence of violence' as being the key determinant of peacefulness, but a lot of the indicators they've used have little or no correlation to this which results in some odd rankings.

Some of the indicators considered alone are interesting though. The US has the highest rate (and number) of incarcerated citizens at ~750 per 100,000 (the corresponding figure for its northern neighbour is ~100) and twice that again on probation or parole, pretty crazy. Wasn't aware that Sweden and the Netherlands had major weapons export industries.
