Pleased to have been selected again. Will have to be on my game though, quite a number chasing seamer spots.

Sri Lanka Board XI announced

Tillakaratne Dilshan leads out a squad on the quaint ground in Kurunegala against the Cricket Web XI in tomorrow's warm-up match. A number of seamers, such as recent Test debutant Dhammika Prasad an veteran Dilhara Fernando, are fighting for positions, as the two spinners' spots in the Sri Lanka squad appear nailed down. The talented batsmen Kaushal Silva, Chamara Silva and Angelo Mathews will make up the middle order.

Sri Lanka Board XI: Tharanga Paranavitana, Upul Tharanga, Dilruwan Perera, Kaushal Silva (wk), Tillakaratne Dilshan, Chamara Silva, Angelo Mathews, Nuwan Kulasekara, Dilhara Fernando, Dammika Prasad, Ishara Amerasinghe

Wow! Stoked to get a call up. Can't believe it. Thought my international career was over. Hopefully I can get into the XI and cement a place in the side.

Smith, Wright called up in endless line of ODI seamers
No place for Dauth, Young

As Cricket Web XI continue their search for half-decent one-day bowlers, Kyle Wright has been recalled following his 37-wicket resurgence at the spearhead of a decen Colts' one-day season. There is no space for rookies Maina and West, but Black's returning bowler Smith, who took 39 wickets last season at the second-lowest average in the league, has been given the opportunity to show his worth. There were also renewed tickets for Clapham, Sriram, and strike bowler Gough.
Quite happy to even be in conetntion, though I hope to get a shot at whatever next tour tha team go off on.

50-over warmup: Sri Lanka 'A' vs Cricket Web XI
at Welagedara Stadium, Kurunegala

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

The touring Webheads outclassed a rather undercooked opposition without impressing, thanks to a solid all-round effort. With a couple of the regular players left out, the team should have room for improvement, despite Chris Butler not continuing his excellent form from the Chairman's Trophy.

Sean Fuller and Nick Scott were inserted by Dilshan, who believed the pitch was poor enough to make some early incisions. His bowlers failed to back him up, however, as both Prasad and Amerasinghe strayed with the line early on, failing to stake claims for spots in the first XI. Nick Scott was eventually run out after a fine spot of fielding from Mathews at mid off, and Butler and Fuller were somewhat bogged down as Cricket Web XI squeaked to 169 for two in the 31st over - Amerasinghe having Butler caught with a return catch.

Stedman and Chaulk, the normal opening pairing, was brought together in the 37th over instead, after Fuller padded up to Angelo Mathews. They added a sufficiently swift 39, followed by Ben Read's support role of 15 not out, which carried the Webheads to a solid total of 269 for four.

A stronger team might have taken advantage, but Smith bowled well enough with the new ball without taking wickes, and the change bowlers got immediate breakthroughs. They then kept a woeful Dilruwan Perera at bay with a menacing line, as the allrounder crawled to 20 off 50 balls - Smith, Fuller and Sriram took advantage of the final attempts at slogging, and Sri Lanka 'A' finished well short.

Cricket Web XI 269 for four (50)
Fuller 89, Scott 52, Chaulk 46*

Sri Lanka 'A' 204 for eight (50)
JK Silva 48; MJ Smith 3/40, Sriram 2/34

Cricket Web XI won by 65 runs
Man of the Match: S. E. Fuller (Cricket Web XI)

Ouch. Shocking performance from myself, but well done to the team on getting the win and building some confidence in the squad.

On the batting side, there was no space for the two leading runscorers without Black contracts, Rob Dauth and Peter Young, as Green's youth was preferred in the shape of Nick Scott and Ben Read. James Stedman and Ash Chaulk retain the faith despite an underwhelming home international season.

Cricket Web XI squad: *Neil Pickup, Chris Butler, Ash Chaulk, Kingsley Clapham, Andrew Cloete, Alex Crampton, Sean Fuller, Kev Gough, Ben Read, Nick Scott, M Smith, G Sriram, James Stedman, Kyle Wright

**** yes finally a seamer that can open the bowling with Gough.

Got lucky that match it seems. Dishlan so scared of Mathews taking his 1st XI spot that he bats him at 7.

First One-day International: Cricket Web XI vs South Africa
at Dambulla

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Alex Crampton and Sean Fuller completed a rescue operation of heroic proportions, as Cricket Web XI snatched victory in a see-sawing game on a poor wicket. It made for entertaining cricket, as Smith took four wickets for 43 on debut for the eleven, while Pickup broke through the top order after they had made a solid start. For South Africa, Ntini was the bowling hero, but the lack of backup showed through as Cricket Web XI escaped by the skin of their teeth.

As in the warmup, the bowling from the Webheads was solid rather than spectacular, and indeed Smith and Gibbs found the going easy early on. 45 runs in nine overs - including four hapless wides from Gough, who finished a mediocre opening spell with five overs from 25 - was a poor return, but Smith bowled his namesake for 16 with the even slower ball, and Kallis was caught at point in the 15th over.

With the two dangermen out, South Africa proceeded cautiously, but still lost Gibbs to Pickup after a pull found its way to leg stump. Duminy played out dot balls to all and sundry, gifting maidens to Butler and Cloete, the latter finishing with remarkable figures of 4-2-8-0. However, Pickup was brought back, and was sufficiently threatening to take out both snails; Smith applied the pressure at the end, taking three more wickets - including the important one of Boucher - and Gough took the wicket of Ntini to end with slightly respectable figures. Crampton was a key man at the end, taking three importing catches as well as keenly stumping de Villiers.

Chasing 220, the Webheads got a horror start as Stedman launched himself to Albie Morkel first ball. Undeterred, Chaulk struck boundaries in successive overs, while Scott scratched around for five runs before he was bowled by Steyn. One run out, one catch and a brilliant ball from Morné Morkel later, and Cricket Web XI were 68 for five; well in control of the run rate, but with Smith padding up after the Fuller/Crampton pairing.

Fuller had settled in well at the crease, making 14, and after surviving the powerplay and a dropped catch by de Villiers, he took full advantage of vapid bowling, as the pair eased to runs without ever taking unnecessary risks. Ntini, who had taken two in his opening spell, was brought back in the 32nd over to liven up the match, and after bowling a maiden to Crampton he held a fine return catch from Fuller - out for 56.

With twelve overs remaining, Cricket Web required a modest 48 to win. However, with an unproven tail, it would still be a challenge. Smith, however, further stamped his claim for Man of the Match on debut as he stood tall for fifteen deliveries - striking one four plus eleven runs - before being trapped lbw by another Morkel yorker. A third followed to Gough, who feebly fended up in the air - a confused Gibbs floored the catch, and the target was 14 with three wickets in hand.

When Steyn then proceeded to toss another one down the leg side - with Mickey Arthur tearing his scalp in frustration - to leave things as a mere formality. Gough hogged the strike, but was eventually able to secure the winning runs, with eleven balls remaining. A fine recovery after a shocking start.

South Africa 219 for nine (50)
de Villiers 45, Gibbs 42, Duminy 33, Boucher 33; M Smith 4/43, Pickup 3/37

Cricket Web XI 220 for seven (48.1)
Crampton 69*, Fuller 56; Ntini 3/48, M Morkel 2/36

Cricket Web XI won by three wickets
Man of the Match: M. J. Smith (Cricket Web XI)
