Windies survive brilliant Hoy
Cricket Web XI vs West Indies
2nd ODI - Arnos Vale Ground

The Cricket Web XI ran out of steam at the end of a thrilling run chase, as the West Indies fought back into the ODI series for a 1-1 scoreline. Chasing 283 for victory, Dinu DeSilva and Nathan Hoy staged a superb recovery from 178/6, and almost carried the XI to an unlikely victory.

The conditions were perfect for batting throughout the day, and the West Indies chose to maximize upon it by batting first upon winning the toss. Gayle was off to an impressive start, then Hoy dismissed Runako Morton and Marlon Samuels in quick succession. Returning from the disappointment of his debut, Nath Patrick made an immediate impact with his 4th ball, and had Gayle caught at extra cover for 24.

Ramnaresh Sarwan and Shivnarine Chanderpaul seized a hold on the game and scored a century and half-century respectively, as the West Indies climbed to 282/7 in 50 overs. Hoy and Patrick bowled outstandingly at the end of the innings, but it was not enough to sufficiently limit the total.

After the failure of both openers in the first game, the Webheads were treated to a calm and careful start to the innings with a partnership of 66. Ian Bradshaw accounted for Camps (26), then Dwayne Smith dismissed both Chris Butler and Ian Markus. When Goff and Kearsley followed, the score was 174/5 in the 34th over.

Ash Chaulk muddled about for 17 balls, then lofted Bradshaw to Morton at extra cover. Hoy joined DeSilva at the crease with 105 runs needed from 80 balls. By the time he was caught by Sarwan off the top edge, he had faced 33 balls, smashed 43 runs, and helped reduce the equation to 25 from 15 balls.

It was just about too much for the Webheads to handle, and Smith ensured it with the dismissal of DeSilva in the 49th over. The West Indies allowed just 15 runs with the final 4 overs, and denied the miracle that seemed so likely a short while earlier.

West Indies 282/7 (50 overs)
Cricket Web XI 267/8 (50 overs)

West Indies won by 15 runs.
Man of the Match: NS Hoy

Bad luck blokes. Good bowling from Nath and Nath. And well batted to Dinu, Hoy, Goofy and Markus. Pity i couldnt get amongst the runs. Really thought we were in with a chance there. Maybe just a few too many runs to chase down.

Lets bounce back now.

You'll Never Walk Alone
Mixture of feelings really. Great to get my first ever International wickets, but it`s a pity we had to lose. Sarwan and Chanderpaul put on a great partnership and our batsmen, although making starts, couldn`t make a big score we needed.

Nothing heaps to be worried about, a close one, and as long as we have Hoy, the chances of us losing are pretty crap. :D

Windies roll to 2-1 series win
Cricket Web XI vs West Indies
3rd ODI - Beausejour Stadium

Against heavy odds at the start of the series, the West Indies cruised home to a 2-1 win over the touring Cricket Web XI with a 69-run margin in the 3rd ODI. It was a very impressive showing from the West Indies and a hugely disappointing finale for the Webheads, who had contested the tour so keenly to the point.

After struggling with the hosts at 142/1, a double strike by Liam Camps contributed significantly to a slide to 145/4. Marlon Samuels was joined by Wavell Hinds and the two set a platform for Dwayne Smith and Denesh Ramdin at the end, as 63 runs came from the final 8 overs. The West Indies reached a huge total of 296/7, and it would prove more than enough even on the flat Beausejour pitch.

Fidel Edwards was the main instrument for the Windies with the ball, as he tore through the Cricket Web top order with 3 wickets in one over. From the depths of 44/4, Brendon Goff and Dinu DeSilva tried to rebuild, but were caught between caution and a climbing required run rate. Goff was victim to the cause and was taken at midoff from a top-edged slog sweep.

DeSilva batted on to his maiden half-century, but failed to inject the required urgency into the run chase. He was caught at slip off Marlon Samuels for 59.

Only Tom Halsey's unbeaten 41 really managed to salvage pride for the Cricket Web XI, his innings coming from only 32 balls. He launched Fidel Edwards for two massive sixes, then Nath Patrick hit him for one of his own, but it was merely a fiery end to a failed chase.

West Indies 296/7 (50 overs)
Cricket Web XI 227 ao (46 overs)

West Indies won by 69 runs.
Man of the Match: MN Samuels
