Why Pick Dhoni when Sanga adds +20 runs and you can replace Dhoni with a specialist bat?

There's no way Sanga gets to bat at 3 AND wicket keeps, if you want him as keeper than you bat him low down the order, or you play him as a specialist bat and pick another keeper.

According to the poll the backup keeper in the squad in case Sanga injures himself is none other than Kamran Akmal

Happened for 42 Tests = cannot possibly happen, apparently

Do you normally wait for a player to play for more than 8 years before you admit they've played?

He averaged better keeping and batting at 3 than when he kept and didn't bat at 3. All of his centuries and half centuries whilst keeping came at 3, didn't score one 50+ score batting anywhere else.

Reckon it's fair enough sanga moves down if he's keeping but don't think it's completely ridiculous to think about him at 3 with the gloves.

Which is why Sanga averaged close to 40 when keeping but close to 70 when not keeping.

Sanga may not average 60 with the bat if he keeps. Better to use a designated keeper. Obvious choice is between PJ and Dhoni. Dhoni better with bat, averages 38, PJ better with gloves, averages 30.

Sanga for me, if only because fitting the amount of bats into the line up would be impossible and him missing out would be a travesty. Was a very good keeper anyway.
Sanga will not miss even as a bat. It's rather losing a very good player line Dravid, Miandad, Younis, Yousuf or Inzamam a spot.

Yeah, but if he's keeping, there is no way Dravid doesn't come in at 3
Yes there is. Sanga at 3, Dravid at 5. Sanga plays way larger innings than Dravid, infact largest innings when set, out of all the Asian batsmen. More reson why he should be at 3 rather than 6/7.

FFS you can't say "Sanga may not average 60 with the bat if he keeps", and then claim he "plays way larger innings than Dravid" when it was specifically written by me in the context of him keeping

Sanga is the keeper for this team. That is settled.

When we discuss his batting position, it will be done with his wicket keeping responsibilities taken into account.

Point taken. But my context is that Sanga has to play as a specialist batsman, and #3 is settled for him. Wicket keeping job should be done by some one else and I pick Dhoni for the job. If pedantic I could choose Brendon Kuruppu who averages 50 with the bat for the keeper, but I prefer Dhoni to be behind the wicket.

The average disparity when Sanga bats vs keeps is a myth. It just so happened that he kept in the early portion of his career when he wasn't as good with the bat.

It's not. If he did not give up the gloves I expect him to average around 50. If he never kept, I would expect him to average around 65.

Yeah but if Sanga never keeps, he doesn't perfect picking the off-spinner/doosra/top-spinner from Murali's hand, and thus ends up averaging 22 against Ajmal and becomes his bunny.
