Was Australia's Sledging Too Much?

Well, if there really is a chink in the English batting against short stuff then it becomes easier for Johnson because he doesn't have to bother with seam alignment and getting his arm up high. He just has to run up and bang them in and eventually they'll find their target. He's always had a nasty bouncer, I doubt that's ever going away.

It's not a weakness against short stuff, it's pace, particularly in the wicket.

See also: Perth 2010 (England's batsmen had no issue flogging Australia's attack in the other 4 Tests), that Test in South Africa where we got dicked.

Norwood's on Fire
The same talk about us being unable to handle Johnson was rife after that Perth test and he quickly reverted to type. See how it goes.

Slightly different though. Johnson at Brisbane bowled like the Johnson of 2008 - ie. fast, hostile, and not even thinking about getting any movement through the air. That also happened to be the most successful and consistent iteration of Johnson, so.

Could all go to poo, but I don't think it's as likely here as it was back then.

the task now is to somehow quicken up melbourne and sydney, because whatever happens to johnsons, when and if we get patto and patty back it's going to be worse for them given the correct conditions

Channel Nine's head of sport, Steve Crawley, offered an apology to Clarke following the broadcasting of his comment to Anderson, saying that the dialogue should not have been broadcast via the stump microphone.
Yes Clarke has great cause to feel upset at the great injustice against him.

Great article today in The Mail on Sunday, written by the excellent Patrick Collins, with the headline: STOP THIS IDIOCY!
Not going to key it all in but would like to pass on some of his observations. On Clarke's much quoted words aimed at Anderson: 'Clarke has rarely been mistaken for a sophisticated wordsmith, but that little effort seemed particularly pathetic. After spending years of Test match cricket assessing people like Anderson, that is the most damaging jibe he can manage'.
' Anderson has a long-standing reputation for verbal provocation, while his colleague, Stuart Broad, has faithfully followed the same peevish path'.
'bath Matt Prior and Graeme Swann are regarded as masters of the cutting quip. Yet, for the moment at least, Australia are making the pace, nobody more so than the oafish David Warner'.
Best quote though is left to a man that we ignore at our peril: (Ian Chappell)- 'As a batsman you are entitled to peace and quiet out there..........I would not be putting up with the crap that is going on'.
'If the ICC don't stop all the chatter that's going on, something personal will be said at the wrong time and you will have fisticuffs.....and who knows what might happen? Particularly if a guy has a bat in his hand.'
