The aesthetic for alien/ aliens was largely developed for Jadorowski's Dune adaptation, which never happened because they couldn't secure the funding.

The movie was supposed to run for 10h. Pink Floyd had been signed for the sound track. Orson Wells was to play baron Harkonnen. They got a bunch of other huge names signed to play the main roles. But it never got made because they came up (from memory) five million short on funding.

The special effects team for Jadorowski's Dune went on to create the Alien franchise and Blade Runner (which for its faults as a movie was peerless aesthetically).
