:(

Favourite non Indian cricketer ever. Quite close to being favourite full stop.

There was nothing else which gave me the same feeling as watching one of those crazy eye spells where you could see he was about to **** the opposition up. Greatest quick since McGrath by a distance.

When was his last Test? Real shame he couldn’t get a proper send-off.
The home series against SL. Those two series against Pak and SL kind of made it obvious the end was near. He was actually bowling decently, and had stretches where he'd look like SA's best bowler by a mile, but also became weirdly hittable.

Played at home against Sri Lanka in the Kusal Perera game iirc

EDIT: and the next test too, yeah those tests will be remembered as anything but Steyn's last

Steyn was ahead of the other test bowlers in his era by the same margin that Viv was ahead of other ODI batsmen of his era.

Yeah that was always very possible at the end of his career once he lost a bit of pace/zip, because of how attacking a length he bowled by default. Unless it’s hooping, half-volley machine without that.

The 2010 version of Steyn was probably the best and most entertaining fast bowler I've ever seen. Hooping it miles with the new ball, ridiculous reverse with the old, had it all.

Steyn vs Tendulkar in that SA/India series is as about as pure a cricketing contest as you can get
