I consider shopping to be a form of torture and just get everything I want online. Explains a lot about the Australian mindset that your menfolk participate in this hideous activity by choice.
You are familiar with the saying "you can't put lipstick on a pig" I assume? Hence English grounds being full 2 hours before play begins.

I know what you mean. English TV always reminds me of pallid grey for some reason.
Gritty colour for gritty broadcasting. Whenever I watch Australian coverage of things like the 1986-7 Ashes, it is as if somebody has spilled orange juice down the screen. The Flying Doctors had a similar look as I recall. Neighbours strangely isn't the same; it looks grey and more washed out.

Shopping is good for the following reasons:

1) free air conditioning
2) it makes wifey happy
3) it's easy to entertain the kids with

Anyway CA have spent a long time convincing us that tickets to the tests are expensive so you want to spend the whole day there. People generally book in advance and for the first three days.

I certainly can't really blame the Aussies for not turning up yesterday. Probably the first time ever I've said this but apart from maybe a very slight hope of a miracle day I didn't go for the cricket.........it was a 90% chance of being what it was......a dull af affair.

The Aussies did have a chance to see their new Bradman knock up another Ashes ton, so maybe that alone should have got a few more in.......but it was always going to be a party in the Barmy Army stand and I just went for that.

Plus the thieving ****s charged $30 at the door to get in.

Yeah If i was a pom ( god forbid) I would definitely have been more inclined to go

This wasn't some epic get out jail escape for Australia.

$30 for the last day is just ridiculous. Not to mention the ****ed up food and drink prices

The stadiums would do well to offer some nicer food and drinks options.

Was always the chance of a late arvo run chase and a result. I don’t think $30 is OTT, but can understand why people would just watch at home given it’s on fta tv.

Back in the 80s and 90s the home city used to only get the last session each day on tv for a test and the first two hours of an ODI to keep the crowds coming in. I think crowds are still bigger now.

Test cricket is dying because even hardcore fans like Adders are reluctant to fork out $30 to spend a day within 100m of their favourite athletes.

You've all been spoiled imo. Can't believe some of you don't go down to at least watch a few hours of the Ashes when it comes to your city once every few years. Poor.

Surely they don't make their money from the ground. It has to be TV, and most aussies have at least 1 TV tuned to the tests. The grounds kill themselves with food prices suitable for mars.

260,000 people paid to go to the match, 20,000 on the last day x $30 = $600,000 and its easy to do the math on the other 240,000.

100k people over the 5 days averaging $50/ticket and then an extra $30 in food is around $8M revenue per Aus test. Tv rights are probably worth 5x that.
