That's not really very good. Long time to go, lots of batting left below me - get ourselves to stumps tomorrow in this dig and we're a long way towards saving the Test.

Now going to go to bed dreaming of Brett Lee bowling at my face. Great.

Cricket Web XI vs Australia
3rd Test - Day 3 - PDV Dome

A top drawer ton by Chris Butler was not enough to save sorry Cricket Web XI, and they were asked to follow on by Ricky Ponting after tea. The left hander played one of his finest innings and was unbeaten when all was said and done, but he could not deliver his team to the large follow-on target of 394. In total the home side lost 12 wickets on the day, and finished trailing by 223 runs with 7 second innings wickets intact.

The Australians did not take long to remove the nighwatchman, Neil Pickup. CW XI captain edged the second ball of the day for a boundary, and three balls later he was struck plumb on the back pad by Brett Lee. And then all the hard work done by Mørk (8) the previous day came to little when he was castled by a Stuart Clark jaffa two balls later. Both overnight players back in the pavilion, Australia were fired up and pressing for the kill. Lee continued by removing 2nd Test hero, Will Kerr, with a ball at his ribs that he deflected to Jaques at short leg, and after a clatter of four consecutive boundaries, he had the last laugh against Mike Wilson, out for 21. It was a deserved 5th wicket, as Lee went on to take 5-85.

At 91-7 the Webbers threatened to collapse for less than a century combined. But the sterling knock of Butler began to take shape. He was dropped on 24 and his partner, Borcich, on 4, and indeed it became clear that any fightback would have to be assisted by the tourists' sloppy play. The partnership grew through the afternoon and CW XI began to look capable of making Australia bat again. Alas, at the height of 146 the stand was ended by Noffke and a full slower ball. Borcich misjudged the delivery and was bowled playing an atrocious shot, 6 short of a maiden Test fifty. Butler had already ticked past 100 with a classic cover drive, but could add little more before he ran out of partners, stranded on 117.

The defiance of Butler was not nearly enough for CW XI

CW XI were asked to bat again chasing 336 to force an Australian second innings. And after Mamesh raced out of the gates with two boundaries, it was quickly the same old story. The aggressive opener played loosely at a short ball and offered a simple catch to deep midwicket, who had been cleverly placed by Ponting. Rob Dauth offered a difficult chance to Haddin when he had 1, but lived to fight on as the wicketkeeper could not hang on. Next to go was in fact Mørk, after another struggling rearguard - 8 runs off 55 balls. Dauth then barely got the chance to catch his breath when Clark claimed the inside edge of his back-foot defensive shot, and the ball clattered onto offstump. At 40-3, and though only 13 overs remained on the day, there were questions as to whether the game would stretch to day four.

Butler's brave second innings lasted a mere fraction of the first, caught second slip 4 balls in, and then Mitchell Johnson amplified home fears by bowling Kerr for 10. The Webbers were in tatters and Pickup, padded up in the pavilion, near tears. Andrew Cloete and Mike Wilson both realized that the only way to go was to counterattack and try to make the best of the desperate situation. The latter was dropped on 4 and then on 13, symptomatic of his resolve to aggression. The bold partnership was worth 39 when play was called to a close, and any miraculous measure hinges largely on the two at the crease when CW XI resume tomorrow, on 103-5.

Dissapointing way to follow up my first innings. Also what has happend to our batting, 90odd for 7, what a joke!

Do we have an end of season tour this year?

thats a terrible NZ team. Neil Broom are you serious? Surley Fulton, Hay or Flynn

And Franklin would be a far better option than Elliot

Flynn is the incumbent, yes. It is just my personal preference XI. I tossed up between Broom & Fulton(both have been in stellar OD form), and went with Broom because I wanted an agressive player in the middle order
And Franklin would be a far better option than Elliot
You do realise your probaly the only person in the world willing to drop a player averaging 51.50 with the bat and 8.88 with the ball?

Better kill this CC talk off anyway, before Camps boots my ass...

3rd Test - Day 4 - PDV Dome

There was not much fight left in Cricket Web XI on the fourth morning and resistance was futile against the fiery fast bowling of Australia. Stuart Clark resumed with 3 wickets in the bag and added 3 more to improve his haul to 6. He and Brett Lee mopped up the lower order and tail in clinical fashion, and only Andrew Cloete showed any sign of a fight.

From the very first over Lee was on song. He picked up Mike Wilson for the second time in the match, when he mistimed a slower ball and was caught and bowled without addition to an overnight 15. With the realization then that the match was well and truly lost, Cloete courageously stepped out against the bowlers and tried to salvage as many runs as possible. He lashed the fast and furious Lee for consecutive boundaries and notched his fifty, added another boundary, and was caught behind. Lee got him to chase a wide delivery and a healthy edge was collected by Brad Haddin. Australia closed in and only the Webber bowlers stood between them and victory.

A Clark yorker was much too good for the CW XI skipper. Pickup fell over trying to defend it and provided the cliched, if iconic, image on his knees at the tail-end of a crushing defeat. Clark then needed just one ball to deal with Thomas- a similarly spectacular yorker, tempting the prospect of a hat-trick to close the match. There was not quite that fairytale ending for the Aussies, but Clark did have a hand (or two) in the final wicket. Borcich lashed out at Lee and the ball flew off the edge to third man, where Clark held the catch. A clinical and dominant win for Australia puts them back into the series, and we will head to CWBCC Stadium in two weeks with everything up for grabs.

Possibly the worst test I've witnessed in CW history. :( We can bounce back though. Get Fuller to crowbar some kneecaps etc.

Cricket Web Black vs Australians
4D Tour Match - CW Bar Ground

Cricket Web Black gave a good account of themselves, but were beaten soundly by the Australians in the final tour match before the deciding 4th Test. There was excitement with ball and bat on both sides, but after tight going in the first half of the match, the Australians pulled away into the lead and onto a comfortable victory.

Only a small crowd was on hand on the opening day to see the tourists bat first and fall for 253. The modest score could have been embarrassing in fact, but for Brad Haddin's 91 under pressure. Previously the Blacks had combined to restrict the score to 163-6 with the pace of Heath Davis (3-72) proving particularly unsettling for the batsmen. Dave Richards also tossed his name back into contention for a recall with clever changes variations of left-arm spin. He completed the innings with figures of 4 for 27, and counted Haddin in his haul. In the hour that remained on the opening day Brett Lee tore the CW Black top order asunder. Four of the top five, including captain Dan Smith, were out to the fast bowler for single digit scores. But it was not entirely one-way traffic. Alex Blackman took it upon himself to counterattack from the start of his innings and proceeded to play one of the most extraordinary first-class innings seen in CWLand. Blackman got steady support from Cameron Burge (40), but was peerless in his effort. By day's end he had pushed on to 51 with 10 fours, and the following day he added 7 more on his way to a century. That milestone came up with an enormous six off Noffke that sailed deep over square leg.

Blackman marched on to his 150 and finished unbeaten on 162 off 133 balls. The scope of his accomplishment was clearest evident in the CW Black score of 246, which meant Blackman had a 66% share. Lee had remarkable figures of 5-88 from 12 overs. The Austalians took their slim lead of 10 runs and batted much better in their second turn at the crease. Simon Katich again provided the backbone of the innings - 121 off 211 - but it was the batting of Shane Watson that stirred the most interest. He followed up a good spell of bowling with a cool knock of 85 and helped Katich along in a partnership of 142. But even when he was out in a quick double strike by Richards, Australia never surrendered control. Instead they feasted on loose bowling and fielding by CW Black and managed to added a further 92 runs for the final 3 wickets.

CW Black then needed 398 runs to win the match and in the space of two hours before day three stumps, they had lost 8 wickets. Brett Lee was held back from the new ball and the batsmen tried to take advantage of the lesser names in the pack. A James Stedman special - 57 off 51 - kept things interesting, but from 117-2, the Blacks slumped to 204-8. Astonishing they rolled along at almost 7 per over despite the frequent clatter of wickets. Much of that aggression stemmed from Blackman, who again looked intent on demolishing the spirits of the Australians. He battered another quickfire 50, slightly slower than the first innings at 34 balls. Michael Clarke eventually brought Lee on as the sixth bowler in the innings, and then saw Burge take 10 runs from his first 4 balls. The 5th was a slower ball that the batsman slogged down the figurative throat of long-on, and Blake Donald deposited the 6th over the same fielder to round out an opening over of 1-0-16-1.

The onslaught continued briefly until Blackman was well caught-and-bowled by Mitchell Johnson and then normalcy set in to see the last 4 wickets fall for 13 runs. Bollinger was the most successful bowler with 3-41, but again Lee's effort was most noteworthy again. He took his match figures to 17-2-122-7.

Australia 1st Innings 256 all out
Haddin 91, Jaques 43, Richards 4-27, Davis 3-70
Cricket Web Black 1st Innings 246 all out
Blackman 162*, Burge 40, Lee 5-88, Watson 2-15
Australia 2nd Innings 387 all out
Katich 121, Watson 85, Richards 3-43, Smith M.J. 3-84
Cricket Web Black 2nd Innings 209 all out
Blackman 60, Stedman 57, Bollinger 3-41, Johnson 2-31
Australia won by 188 runs.

A win would have been a nice end to the season, think too many of us were still hungover though.
