*Official* CW XI in South Africa

Pleased enough with my knock and a great display of batting from Dinu. We weren't the best in the field, though, and as much as the bowlers might need to stand up, the fielders were only able to take a single catch in the game. Sometimes the fielders need to get the wickets, too, but we let them off lightly. To be fair, the batsmen might have paced themselves a bit better, too, gaining a few more runs with those six wickets in hand.

Still, a good solid win overall.

First One-day International: South Africa vs Cricket Web XI
at Newlands, Cape Town

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

Cricket Web XI turned on full throttle against South Africa's seniro team, skittling them on 162 in a murky Cape Town afternoon that just got grimmer and grimmer for the home crowd. Their eleventh successive one-day international victory was achieved at a canter, as only Gibbs, Kemp and Pollock offered resistance in a woeful mismatch.

It started with medium pacer Liam Camps being entrusted with the new ball once more, as the CW XI selectors had picked a side devoid of specialist seamers. However, Camps celebrated excellent results, yanking Loots Bosman with an inswinging yorker before Jacques Kallis nicked him to Butler at point.

Graeme Smith continued in the run from the Test series, stroking 21 fluent runs, but gave a soft return chance to Camps, who finished his opening spell with respectable figures of three for 23. Despite Marc Robbins taking considerable tonking, the spinners came back strongly to rip the heart out of the game, and Chris Butler got to end the innings with a slow delivery outside off and a lovely return catch.

Chasing 163, the game was briefly made exciting by Shaun Pollock's new ball bowling - like Camps', it was accurate, and the overhead clouds assisted him. Markus registered a golden duck, caught at point by Gibbs, and Brendan Goff gave a limp return catch. However, Liam Camps settled in, and Chris Butler launched a brutal assault on the South African backup bowlers. Justin Kemp's three overs went for 21 - Robbie Peterson's four for 35, as if the team weren't struggling enough. Smith brought himself on in the end, only to be hit for the three winning runs, and CW completed an easy eight-wicket win.

How out:

South Africa:
GC Smith: chipped an inswinger back to the bowler
LL Bosman: didn't offer a shot to an inswinger
JH Kallis: cut to point
HH Gibbs: high shot caught at deep midwicket
AB de Villiers: too quick single
MV Boucher: fooled by the googly, didn't offer a shot
JM Kemp: nibbled drive caught one-handed by bowler in followthrough
SM Pollock: hoiked to midwicket
RJ Peterson: full-length slider weakly chipped away
CK Langeveldt: leg-break cut into stomach of Markus
A Nel: not out

Top work, ripped them up. The spinners smashed it, and Camps was superb. Great innings by Butler as well.

Disapointed to have been left out of the first ODI side, however great win from the guys. Always a lot easier to get through the series with early victories. Well done fellas.
