Could go either way but I do actually think Maxwell will be a good test cricketer eventually. He'll always be a bit dopey but he's got a pretty ridiculous gift for the game. Wouldn't pick him that soon though.

Well technically he is much better than 10/11 Smith. Whether he has the same work ethic, drive and capacity to build an innings properly i dont know. Either way there is no room for both him and MMarsh and atm i like MMarsh more

I don't really think he and Marsh are competing for the same role at all. Thinking of Maxwell long term as being a specialist bat, can't really see him being someone who you'd want bowling in every innings.

In addition, I dont hate fielding abilities and I think Maxwell is probably the best fielder in world cricket right now.

Maxwell could easily cover every spot in the team he's that talented and why should he have to prove he can in similar conditions. Obvious talent is enough.

Maxwell bowls at under 40 in red ball cricket, no reason to suggest he couldn't develop into a batting all-rounder at test level. Across a test match he's easily worth 25 runs in the field, too.

His biggest issue is that he just isn't playing enough red ball cricket because he's constantly playing in T20 and ODIs.

Bigger crime in cricket scoring is umpire's refusal to call wides. I feel sorry for the keepers some of the ludicrous decisions to award byes you see.

How do you calculate him being worth 25 runs in the field?
