The radical Economic Freedom Fighters, whose leader split from the ANC and promises to seize land from whites, is polled to rise slightly from six to 10 percent of the vote, still far from a power challenge.
“It’s the liberation movement, they set us free. And Cyril is a face of hope. Better the devil you know…,” summarised Zweni.

For all the difference in problems, corruption and competence around the world, people are the same everywhere..... either don't vote or stick with what you know, regardless.

Reminds me of how much ****ing a disappointment the ballot papers in the 2017 Kenyan general elections in my home county were. Most cases it was either voting for the ruling party sycophant or one from a bunch of idiots too inconsequential for the ruling party to bother buying off. In the Senate ballot it was literally a choice between sum semi-intelligent ruling party placeholder, or the founder of the most notorious extortion gang in Kenya's history. Since then literally the only leader who's making an effort to do their job was the independent who won the County governor's seat in spite of the efforts of the state to keep him out

The death toll from a devastating storm that hit KwaZulu-Natal on Monday night and continued into Tuesday morning has risen to 70, the province’s acting premier has said.Sihle Zikalala made the announcement at a media briefing on Thursday morning, according to broadcaster eNCA.
The death toll is expected to rise as rescue teams are still continuing with search operations.

Sounds like a lot of crying to me. Those 30 parties combined will unlikely have more than 3 or 4% of the votes.

Load of nonsense. Our electoral process is pretty good. Not perfect. But the few dodgy incidents tend to be localised and make no difference to overall numbers realistically (and generally are picked up). The biggest complaint those parties have is they not gonna get their deposit back.

We will find out when he selects his cabinet. If he reduces it like he said he would and gets rid of the problems, he will have show he is in control of the party (at least enough) to start taking action. If the cabinet stays large and their are rotten apples then nothing will change any time soon (or ever).

What is always of concern though is what pressure the EFF will put onto policy. And from a personally point of view it is worrying for me to see the FF+ grow so considerably.
