This has probably been done to death already, but nonetheless:

If you had to compile a team of current players, with one representative from each of the 10 test playing nations, and 1 associate player to round it out, what would it be?

To start the ball rolling:

Tamim (BAN)
Cook (ENG)
Pujara (IND)
Clarke (AUS)
Sangakkara (SRL)
Chanderpaul (WI)
Taylor (wk) (ZIM)
Southee (NZL)
Steyn (SAF)
Hassan (AFG)
Ajmal (PAK)

Change I'd make is to use Shakib, more reliable batsman than Tamim and provides a good left-arm option to partner Ajmal's offies.

Hamid Hassan hasn't played FC cricket in over a year and a half, Not sure I'd be confident with him featuring in an attack that will rely purely on the 4 bowlers picked. He does seems to be performing in every game he plays in the shorter version recently though, so maybe it's worth a shot. I'd definitely go Shakib over Tamim if I were to pick Hassan though, because a fifth bowling option would be pretty important.

I don't really have enough quick bowling in that side I guess. The original plan was to go with Kallis and two spinners but I eventually decided that Steyn was more valuable than Kallis in this exercise.. and then didn't change the bowling. Shakib would probably have to bat 7 with Clarke subbed out for Pattinson or Harris.

Rankin is a cheat really, like Jarvis he's retired from international cricket for his original nation.

I would go for Daemon's suggestions to Cribb's side, i.e.:

1. Cook (Eng)
2. Joyce (Ire)
3. Sanga (SL)
4. Pujara (Ind)
5. Clarke (Aus)
6. Taylor (Zim)
7. Shakib (Bang)
8. Southee (NZ)
9. Steyn (SA)
10. Roach (WI)
11. Ajmal (Pak)

Joyce is a cheat then as although he played for Ireland he also played for England :D

Rankin hasn't represented England, yet, at Test level!

Joyce is currently available to be selected for Ireland. If Ireland played a game tomorrow he'd be playing. Rankin is not.

With Steyn playing, Boult is a better option than Southee IMO.

Opening batsmen are difficult, as there aren't many good ones around at the moment and picking two of the best (Cook and Smith) means you miss out on Anderson, Pietersen, Prior, Steyn and Kallis.
