Will the Kiwis choke against Australia in the final again?

No they didn't "deserve" it. Pakistan won and deservingly so.

As for this WC, Aus deserve to win this and they are very likely to.
Not according to betting agencies. The one I looked at rated them the least likely of the three remaining teams to win.

A genuine question.

If NZ wins is this the weakest team to ever win the world cup?
I think if New Zealand beats Australia or England in addition to beating India to win the World Cup you’d struggle to call them weak. But I get what you’re saying.

There’s been some very good teams winning World Cups down the years.

Without really looking into it, would the weakest sides to win World Cups be India 83 and Australia 87? Again, still good sides but no Windies 75/79, or Australia 03 for instance.

Pakistan 92 or India 83 up there.
Pakistan 92 not really they did not play that well especially in the beginning but it was really strong team

2 ATG's (Wasim, Imran) 2 borderline ATG"S confirmed Pakistan ATG's (Inzi,Javed) 2 Pakistan greats (Mushy, Malik)

Current NZL
1 potential ATG (Willamson) 2 NZ ATG's (Taylor,Boult) 1NZ great (Guptill) 1 potential NZ great (ferguson)

Need to look at India 83 in detail to compare

Definitely India 83. But probably followed by this NZ team. It has a lot of weaknesses which is just covered by one man, the Kane.

Australia 87 is actually quite decent on paper

India 83 were not given a hope in hell. Every contemporary article about that tournament is about how shocking the result was. It's the Denmark 92 of cricket, and only seen as normal in hindsight because India have since become one of the game's big nations.

Wisden points out that you could get 66/1 odds on India winning before the tournament, which in an 8 team cup with only five games is way out there. Comparable to Bangladesh winning this one.

India 83 is not bad to be honest 2 ATG'g Kapil and Gavaskar i know he sucked at odi's byt I am not claiming this is the best possible metric to compare one Indian Atg (Vengsarkar) and collection of really good odi cricketers for that time (Amarnath, Shastri, Binny,Madan Lal, Sandeep Patil,Srikanth)

It was surprising and India had a lot of bad players in the team. Balwinder Sandhu, Madan Lal and Rubbish Binny formed 3/4th of the pace attack, the top 6 batsmen averaged 30,29,30,28 and 24 in their careers and Kirti Azad who averaged 14 with the bat and 39 with the ball was the designated no rounder.

On paper, it is the weakest team by about 20 miles. The current Bangladesh team is honestly a superior team on paper.

Madan lal and Binny were actually considered quite good all rounders there bowling record still hold well today. ODI cricket was still in its early stages batting average of 30 remained a benchmark of good odi batsman till 2000 atleast. Some of the records do not hold well if you look from today's perspective but for that era of odi cricket they were fine for eg Srikanth with avg of 29 and SR of 71 will be binned within a year but he was genuinely seen and respected as one of the dangerous openers for 80's odi cricket.
