Your Favourite Restaurant/Takeaway Joint

Inspired by people's default McDonald's/pizza order, but would be keen to know what people love out of all restaurant options. Does not need to be anything well-known, it's all your choice.

My favourite in Sydney would have to be a burger joint known as Bar Luca. Their Blame Canada (which is essentially a bacon cheesburger + poutine) is a thing of beauty:

(not my picture, unfortunately the camera quality on my phone sucks)

we mean just local or that we've been to full stop? because the former is probably kebaba and the latter is definitely cracker barrel

Either or.

Cracker Barrel (unless it's a different restaurant to what I think it is) seems a strange call. I've never eaten there but the impression I get/stereotype is that it's trash roadhouse food.

My philosophy lately when going out to eat or ordering in is to try a different restaurant each and every time. There are so many options here, I feel like I need to try them all.

There is a Thai place near work that I'm a regular at for lunch, just because it's nearby and reasonable price/quality, but apart from that, I don't think i've eaten at/ordered from any other restaurant more than twice in the past year.

it's southern so the stereotypes are inevitable. but it's great, and there's neat stuff in the shop too. got a book on knots from one.

Would it ruin this place for you to learn that this was a very regular after-events hangout for NSW libertarians, to the point where the staff there even reserved us spaces when we asked?

(for those playing along at home, this isn't a chain - there's only one of them)

Norwood's on Fire
Indian restaurant near prenton Park for me

Start in Oxton for a few craft ales at the Homebrew. Move onto the Shrew for some more beer or maybe a few rum and cokes. Wander down to Rhui, via off licence where one purchases red wine for the table

Order plentiful starters. Tandoori Murgh Masala a good choice for the main. Keema rice, peshwari naan.

After dinner consider finishing in the Halfway House

NB if its a matchday, replace Oxton with a couple of beers in Aldos and a few Gamma Ray in the tent

Ha, that's a crazy find.

Oh well, I guess it was typical that fat nerds would like fattening food. Be more concerned if it was flat out right-wingers going there after events.

Now I just need to convince Young Labor Left to have events near Circular Quay

It's actually kinda rare that we ate there. We just used to go and smash the beers there after events that had food at them. I did eat there a couple of times with plastered libertarians but it wasn't picked for the food.

Slowly it became replaced by the Three Wise Monkeys and I'm not really sure why. I prefered Bar Luca tbh.

I'm going to stump up a few location nominations.

Firstly my local watering hole, that has also always does a 9/10 pizza and a great Malaysian feed (even if they don't call it that because my local area is full of boomers who don't know what Malaysian cuisine is and don't want to try it):
https://www.facebook.com/MyallBistro/

Secondly, my local Nepalese place (see above for why they don't advertise themselves as such):

Thirdly, the takeaway joint I could literally trip over and land in, that does an awesome "kebab day" with HSPs once a month and crucially a 9/10 snitty burger. Pertinently, the owner of this joint is literally my next door neighbour. The actual takeway is slightly further way but I've had to go and pick my cat up from there -- it's close.

And finally, it's 50 minutes away, but the Kent Hotel not only serves my (very rare) favourite beer, but also a great serve of cheese and bacon fries, a wonderful seafood platter and a great steak.

I may (probably will) make a separate post for NW Sydney feeds given I spend a few days there a month. Stay tuned.

I'm gonna add some more favourites:

For Indian, I love this place called Surjit's on Parramatta Rd. Bonus points for having a shitload of cricket memorabilia lining the walls - supposedly whenever the Indian team is in Sydney they eat there. If only Dishoom was in my country, though....

Pub wise, these two pubs stand out. I just wish that the White Cockatoo still hosted Goni's Schnitzelria (restaurant noted for their giant schnitzels - that is now around Ramsgate which is well out of my way and a boring dump anyway). First one mostly does somewhat upmarket standard pub fare (but importantly stuff that is delicious - plus their beer range is top-notch), second one is noted for their awesome pies. And while I don't like the decor of the Townie, they host Foxhat Burgers which is as almost as good as Bar Luca. Though if you want a real favourite, it has to go to Honest Burger in the UK.

Being from Petersham every **** asks me "so what do you think of Frango's?" It's not the most incredible stuff, but their chicken does still remain very good. (PS: always order take-away from here, there's a significant markup if you eat in)

This place does the most killer fried chicken. Unfortunately it's no longer hosted by the Bald Faced Stag so a bit out of my way, but it is A++. There's also another place even further out of my way, but fried chicken + ramen is basically my **** bank, so. And while maybe not quite on the same level as the other two, the third place is a bit closer and also does a great fried chicken.

There's tons more I could talk about - Sydney is a great food city, but this post is already rather long and I tried to stick with stuff in the Inner West.

will have to take note of some of these places morgie's going through because they sound brilliant

there is a superb italian joint in the quay by the name of salt meats cheese - i believe there's a couple of them around the city, and they're just brilliant. it's magnificent and importantly, authentic italian with brilliant service and a brilliant lunch deal if you go on the right day. would recommend to any sydneysider - the one at the quay has the bonus of super views if you get the right table

Yeah, doesn’t surprise me. Been there for decades. As long ago as the mid 90s it was known as Bar Loser so, you know...

fwiw there is a BL Burgers, which is just the same thing, in parramatta, but i'm not surprised the typical inner-city libertarian types yet again disregard the west tbh:ph34r:
