Cricket Web 'A' vs Australians
4D Tour Match - Day 4 - Pickford Reserve
Cricket Web 'A' put in a strong showing in the final leg of their match against the Australians. And though they lost late wickets and came close to defeat, they still finished with significant credibility. The Australians began the day still at the crease, but were confronted with a fired up Martin West and only batted for 10.2 overs before they declared. In that time Ponting attempted to supply Shane Watson and Brad Haddin with some time in the middle. But after West got Hayden caught at short-leg, he bowled Watson first up. He then followed with a similar delivery to remove Haddin for 8 and Ponting called the innings closed immediately, leaving Phil Jaques unbeaten on 47.
The Webbers set out to chase an impossible 508 runs and under pressure lost 3 wickets in the build to lunch. Mitchell Johnson accounted for both of those, with Sean Fuller (14) caught at midwicket and Jamee Gray (12) trapped in front of middle stump. Ashley Noffke also chipped in to bowl Bosco Fitzsimmons (8), who attempted an outrageous pull shot to a delivery too full. In the afternoon the Cricket Web Red pairing of Rob Dauth and David Kearsley started to claw CW 'A' back into the game by taking on the bowlers, particularly Bryce McGain. And they carried the score to 172 when Kearsley (65) misjudged a delivery from Noffke and played no shot to be sent on his way, lbw.
Dauth dashed onward toward what would have been a priceless ton. But on 86 he lost his concentration and failed to get over a cut shot, instead caught by Symonds at backward point. By then Andrew Garven was in flowing form and shortly after tea he raced through to 50 off 42 balls. Blake Donald was in similar mood, and collected 6 fours and a six in his near-run-a-ball 50. The brilliant hitting continued from Garven as though he was realistically approaching the massive target. He raised his total to 9 fours and 3 sixes and notched up a memorable century. But he was finally outdone by a Symonds offbreak and out for 104. Still there were no alarm bells with just over an hour and a half left in the match and Dave Richards in with 4 wickets intact.
He and Donald carried the game comfortably into the closing moments with continued aggression. Donald tried his hand at a century and elevated his pace to suit, but fell 14 runs short to Johnson. Richards was out almost immediately after, lbw for an impressive 55. Only 10 balls were left in the match and the Webbers had just 2 wickets to stick it out. West failed and was instead caught off the inside edge for 1, but Muhammad Amir attempted to make up for a poor showing with the ball by defending the 4 remaining deliveries to secure a draw.

Injury Report
Matthew Hayden will miss the remainder of the series with a sprained wrist. His likely replacement, Phil Jaques, is in good touch after scores of 56 and 47 not out against Cricket Web 'A'.
Cricket Web XI batsman Pete Young will also miss the remainder of the series, having fractured his cheekbone during a net session at PDV Dome.

Dauth back in the frame
Cricket Web Red batsman Rob Dauth has been recalled to the Test team in place of the injured Pete Young. The right-hander enjoyed a prolific season for club, but struggled for country and was dropped ahead of the series against Australia. In the two Tests since, his replacement Will Kerr has come in and looked in good touch, recovering from a poor debut to win the 2nd Test for Cricket Web XI.
The remainder of the team remains intact, though Neil Pickup had an injury scare when he trod on a seagull during fielding drills in Pickford. Pickup will look to lead CW XI to an historic series win with victory in the third Test.

H Mørk (wk), T Mamesh, RJ Dauth, AP Cloete, CR Butler, WA Kerr, MW Wilson, NA Borcich, NS Pickup, GM Thomas, TJ Demeza.

Bryce McGain has been dropped in favour of Mitchell Johnson, and Australia will play four seamers at PDV Dome. Michael Clarke and Andrew Symonds will serves as the spinners for Australia. Phil Jaques also returns in view of the injured Matthew Hayden.

The top order crumbled to the pace of the Webber seamers, but a solid 49 from recalled Phil Jaques did a lot to assist the recovery. However it was when the middle order took over that the runs truly began to flow. Vice-captain Michael Clarke found his best touch of the tour and reach 50 shortly after lunch. After Demeza got Jaques caught in the covers, Mike Hussey proved a worth partner for Clarke and the two batsmen added a cool 115 for the fourth wicket.

The next wicket did not fall for Cricket Web XI until the 57th over, as play closed toward tea. Neil Pickup took his first wicket of the match, though a dubious one as Clarke was adjudged lbw when the ball looked likely to turn past offstump. His replacement Symonds, on the back of a huge hundred against Cricket Web 'A', quickly reflected his newfound form. While Hussey pushed the ball into gaps smartly and passed 50, Symonds played with a touch more flair. He counted 8 fours in a 47-ball half-century, raised with two fours in a Borcich over. Australia marched on and Symonds closed in on his century, then chipped the ball chest high to mid-off. But to the batsman's delight, Borcich dropped the ball in that position and Symonds soldiered on to 117 not out at day's end. With him, Hussey would hope to bring up his milestone early on the second morning, as he still needs 13 to do so.

The Andrew Symonds onslaught continued at PDV Dome and he racked up a total of 172 at the heart of Australia's 593 all out. The day started promisingly for Cricket Web XI with the wicket of Mike Hussey for 90, just 3 more than his overnight total. Brad Haddin was caught at deep square leg for 11 soon after to leave the score at 424-6. But despite the hints at a collapse, Symonds pushed on to ensure Australia climbed well past 500. The allrounder was dropped by Demeza in the first over of the day and fell just before lunch, caught at second slip off a good Wilson delivery.
At lunch Australia had seven wickets down, but their tale was not told. They batted for a further 40.2 overs into the final session, and largely due to a maiden Test fifty from Ashley Noffke, the last 3 wickets produced a total of 118 runs. Noffke was unbeaten on 70 at the end of the innings and Neil Pickup lead a weary bunch back to the pavilion in preparation for their turn at the crease. That initial turn would only be 20 overs, but it was enough time for Australia to firm up their position due some expert fast bowling. Brett Lee fired up after he was twice hit to the boundary by Thamba Mamesh, and he removed the opener with sharp away-swing. Mamesh pushed at the delivery and was caught at slip for 18. In strolled Rob Dauth on his return and under pressure to save his career.

Dauth turned his second ball to fine leg for a single and tried to look as calm and collected as possible, but the next time he faced Lee his unease was very apparent. Twice he pushed and was beaten outside offstump, then Lee smacked him on the helmet with a quick bouncer. A 13-minute delay ensued in which Lee helped tend to the battered batsman. And then on resumption he produced a spectacular, if predictable, yorker to uproot the middle stump. Dauth could only shake his head and walk off for 1. He passed Andrew Cloete who jogged to the middle with intent in his eyes. The legendary batsman started promising with a confident offdrive, and won his mini-battle with Lee. But for all his resolve, Clark found the outside edge of his bat and Katich caught the ball smartly at third slip. Desperate times called for a night-watchman and Pickup took up the responsibility. It was not always pretty, but he negotiated 14 balls until stumps. The ever-resilient Håkon Mørk joined him with 8, from only 67 balls too.
