The American Politics thread

I think GG is not an idiot and there's value in a lot of his work but his professional contrarian persona as a pundit is a result of the fact that he is treated extremely well and platformed by large segments of the American right but is avoided or not taken seriously by establishment 'liberals'.

It's a lot easier to dunk on the great clintonian hypocrisy or whatever on, for instance, Tucker Carlson's show as opposed to calling out Trump's racism on a platform like that.

Talk about slave labour
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news...-coronavirus-prison-incarcerated-firefighters

'The crews are both crucial and heavily exploited, said Ralston, who worked at a fire camp while incarcerated. In exchange for extremely dangerous work, prisoners earn time off their sentences and are paid between $2 and $5 a day, plus $1 per hour when they are on a fire. Because incarcerated firefighters are paid so little, the program saves the state of California $90m to $100m a year'.

Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction."

Who did Max root for when watching the Americans?

Crap jokes and Max aside, going to be interesting to see what 4 years of Biden will look like foreign policy wise.
It ain't going to happen, more convinced of it than ever before. Strait-laced people have just decided acting like 12 year olds is what they've always been suppressed from doing, all this histrionics over masks, people just want to behave like children, trump gives them this, he does it himself, they admire him for it, even though they know it's intrinsically wrong for a Leader of a major country.

I don't believe polls, these morons are going to vote Trump, and probably say they voted for Biden when they walk out, it's like that ugly girl Pornhub **** you did, no-one will admit it, but they do it nonetheless.

Maybe I've game theoried my own brain too much but I've never understood the purpose of secretly voting for someone. One vote is meaningless, so the only way to actually influence the result is to convince others to vote the same way, which you'd obviously need to out yourself to do. Beyond that, voting is virtue signalling, which again doesn't really work without actually signalling your virtue.

Humans eh.

AFAIK the whole "polls were wrong because people wouldn't admit to their vote" thing is just an elegant, simple, and wrong explanation that stands in for much more boring stuff to do with turnout modelling.
