The BBC headline for this match is decent. "New Zealand Confirmed in Last Four as Pakistan Cannot Defeat Bangladesh by 308 Runs". Close call then.

Yea this one is done. Pakistan have looked a good team. Won it by posting 300+, and the bowling did the job early. BD needed a really good start, 80/3 was always going to be hard to come back from

I suppose Pakistan end this tournament in a situation similar to West Indies. They need to move on from aging non-performers like Hafeez and Malik. There's some young talent around which ought to be nurtured. There's a reason why they didn't make it to the top 4 and that is inconsistency and **** fielding. Shouldn't have lost some matches in which they were in a commanding position at some points either.

Other than not making the semis, Pak should be satisfied with this campaign. Two decent left arm seamers, a leggie who might come good in the future, a useful bits and pieces guy in Wasim, and at least two solid young batsmen in Imam and Babar. Has the makings of a decent nucleus for the next few years.

Not a bad tournament for Pakistan. Finished much better than anybody could have expected at the beginning. And dare I say they were the 4th best team in the tournament

They did beat two of the semi finalists. Other than the WI game it was not that bad an effort tbh.

If we just didn't lose as badly against WI, and kept the momentum going against Aus instead of throwing wickets away, this would've been a different WC for us.

cray to think about the small margins in this wc. nz were a taylor/kane/neesham clutch moment away from a disastrous south african style world cup, but might have been an extra couple of lockie or trenty overs away from skittling oz for 120. west indies too, if their bowlers didn't run out of gas, might have murdered australia dead and kick started their own charge into the semis.

Yeah the Carey/NCN innings were huge.

Similarly for India, if Rohit hadn't been dropped in every innings, we could very well be struggling to qualify ourselves.

What nonsense. If they were the 4th best they would have made the semis. NZ played better than pak overall.
Pak lost vs windies in 13 overs.. lucky to beat afghan too umpires handed them the game

No, making the semi finals doesn't necessarily mean being the 4th best. NZ have been playing like a club side every time they come up against a decent side. They were lucky their match against India for washed out. Otherwise given the way they've been playing they would have surely lost.

Overall, it was a good tournament for Pakistan. But for the blip against Afghanistan, they seemed to get better as the tournament progressed.

I don’t think you can say that. They were meant to play them earlier in the tourney when they seemed to have been traveling better.

Afridi ended up having a pretty decent tournament. 16 poles in five matches is a good haul.
