Cricket Web Black v Bangladeshis
at Fardin Qayyumi CC

Black made it home easily for a 98-run victory over dejected tourists, with Ben Fox and Dan Smith stars in a glorified hit-out. Black won the toss and batted first, and a Bangladesh side without Rafique and Razzak were always going to struggle against the in-form line-up of the Dev League. What was perhaps a little more surprising was the way the in-form batsmen threw away their wickets.

James Stedman, for example, settled for 34 runs today; he then attempted to sweep Saqibul's slower full toss and was beaten. With Arnold, Blackman and McMeekin all providing quick runs, it was up to Armstrong and Smith to settle against the hittable medium pace from Reza and Rasel. This was done with precision and care, and the two shared a stand of 164 for the fifth wicket, effectively killing all hopes of an away win. Smith was the dominant partner, thumping nine fours and a six in his 90-ball hundred, and also batted till the end, while Armstrong eventually padded up to Mortaza and was out for 63.

Defending 296 against Bangladesh was as easy as expected. The tourists shoved their better batsmen down the order in order to give the lesser names such as Tamim and Farhad a good innings; but Fox took three wickets in his opening spell, and despite thumping from Ashraful and Mortaza and more dignified rearguards from Bashar and Rahim, Bangladesh were whittled out for 198. Corey McMeekin took three for 35 as the Bangladeshis grew frustrated with their enterprise.

Cricket Web Black 296 for five (50 overs)
DP Smith 104, AJ Blackman 43

Bangladeshis 198 all out (45.3 overs)
Habibul Bashar 48; BB Fox 4-29, CR McMeekin 3-35

Cricket Web Black won by 98 runs
Man of the Match: D. P. Smith (Black)

BARNES OUT
Great stuff from the whole side there. They may not have been at full strength but to knock off a test nation so convincingly, without most of our big guns, is an achievement to be proud of. Fox showing us his great grade form with a fine 4-fer, Meeks being gun with the ball and Armstrong making a good back to the wall knock are all performances to be proud of.

Surprised with my own effort really, I've never been much of a hitter but I guess when it's your day, it's your day. My best List-A knock you'd have to think. Comparisons to Watson only inflate my ego.

Good to see Black doing well against an international side. Great innings from Smith and Fox made the most of the opportunity.

Stedman and Chaulk in CW XI ODI squad

James Stedman has been called up to Cricket Web XI colours for the first time, and his CW Black teammate, Ash Chaulk has been recalled to service. Both batsmen have been in excellent form over the last two seasons, and make their way into the side in the absence of the retired Brendon Goff and the injured Ian Markus. Chaulk lost his place to Alex Crampton after a prolonged run in the side as wicketkeeper. However, he will now play as a specialist batsman, due to his undeniable runscoring record.

Kingsley Clapham and Dinu DeSilva have been retained in the side despite a lack of consistent game-time in recent ODIs. There is no room, however, for Daniel Towns in the 13-man party. Liam Camps has been named as vice-captain to Neil Pickup.

CW XI ODI squad:
NS Pickup (c), LA Camps (vc), A Crampton (wk), CR Butler, JE Stedman, AP Chaulk, AP Cloete, KR Clapham, TC Halsey, DJ Watt, KJ Gough, RJ Dauth, MW DeSilva.

These players will be unavailable for club service over the course of the ODI series.

Pleased the selectors still have a little confidence in me :) Also congrats to Stedders & Chaulk, thoroughly deserved call up.

Agreed, congrats Chaulk and Stedman - well deserved callups.

As Clapo mentioned, pleased the selectors showed some faith in me after some indifferent showings lately.

Heres to a clean sweep (Y)

Cricket Web XI v Bangladesh
at Pickford Reserve

Scorecard
Ball By Ball

In a game dominated by the batsmen, only four wickets fell, with debutant James Stedman the only Webhead who had to trudge back to the pavilion as the hosts chased down a testing target of 240 with ease. The fast bowlers lacked zip on a slow wicket, while the batsmen showed themselves as expert negotiators of difficult turn, leaving Halsey as the only spin bowler with respectable figures.

Bangladesh impressed after winning the toss and batting, with both Javed Omar and Shahriar Nafees scoring reasonably quickly against a too inaccurate spell from the seamers. They made 67 for the first wicket before Gough struck in the eleventh over, making the in-form batsman Rajin Saleh join Shahriar Nafees at the crease. And what the bowlers had made a formality during the Test series could not be replicated here. Rajin continued his fine tour with a solid innings, though the slow strike rate would ultimately cost Bangladesh a target with which they could perhaps have challenged. Instead, Halsey tied the batsmen down acceptably in his ten overs, and though the partnership was worth 142 the total stood at 240 for three.

In the Dev League against a team not named Black, this would have been an acceptable total. Unfortunately for the tourists, the first three batsmen earn their keep at Pickford and know the ground in and out. Stedman looked set to make his debut a particularly memorable one as he raced to 36 off 27 balls, but was inexplicably given out lbw to Rasel, leaving Cloete to finish the job with Chaulk. This he did with ease, and he also celebrated his second One-day International century, driving Saqibul for two down the ground to record the hundred in 97 balls. Chaulk was oddly subdued, hitting only two boundaries and ending with an unbeaten 88, but it still yielded the batsman's highest score in international cricket.

Bangladesh 240-3 (50 overs)
Shahriar Nafees 101, Rajin Saleh 72*; TC Halsey 1-32 (9), KJ Gough 1-33 (9)

Cricket Web XI 243-1 (44.5 overs)
AP Cloete 112*, AP Chaulk 88*; Syed Rasel 1-48 (8)

Cricket Web XI won by 9 wickets
Man of the Match: A. P. Cloete (Cricket Web XI)
