Wow. Had only recently posted one of my favourite movie scenes in the movie thread, which had him in it.

About that time of year we can lay the football thread to rest too methinks. Dicey transfer story after dicey transfer story and soon to be superceded by the World Cup thread, now's a good time for it imo.

Hope we can start afresh next season and grow the new incarnation into a loving, fun thread full of riveting discussion.

If that meant that I would never have to watch anything Star Wars related ever again, it would be a price worth paying, nearly.

Double international and New Zealand sporting legend Eric Tindill has died aged 99.

Tindill was the oldest surviving All Black and test cricketer.

He played both rugby and test cricket for New Zealand and also refereed test rugby and umpired test cricket.

He made his All Blacks debut on Saturday 21 September, 1935, against Yorkshire and Cumberland at Bradford in the north of England.

His first and only Test appearance came later on that same tour on January 4, 1936, against England in London. He made 14 of his 17 All Blacks appearances on that 1935-36 tour, adding three further appearances on the team's 1938 tour of Australia.

Not only was he a full international in both rugby (1935-1936) and cricket (1937-1947) but after his playing career ended he added to this distinction by refereeing Test rugby and umpiring Test cricket, as well as giving lengthy service to Wellington and New Zealand Cricket as an administrator.

He also served as a member of the NZEF during the Second World War.

Sad news. Must've been one of the last living links to pre-war tests too.

99 a very good knock tho. RIP.
