The British Politics Thread

The Scottish coverage is basically 2015 all over again. A seemingly fantasy exit poll in terms of SNP seat numbers followed by everyone on all sides (including SNP) saying 'no way that can be correct'.

In 2015 it was pretty spot on, will be interesting to see if it's the case this year.

Labour are finished as a political force.

Scottish independence and Brexit have completely broken their electoral coalition.
I mean sure it has but there is still no way they are finished. It is almost impossible in our electoral system for one of the two main parties to lose their position, I mean look at how many seats the other parties in England are going to win tonight. No matter how much politics or society changes we have those two parties.

But if you mean Labour in terms of as it had existed in the last decade then sure. The party will remain, just with a new coalition

What that coalition looks like will be very interesting though.
It's worth noting they're holding on to a lot of their 2017 London gains (apparently will hold Kensington, and might win Cities of L&W). If we see a lot of high 30's/low 40's sort of results in South London for the Tories they might be ripe for the picking at the next election, especially as the Lib Dems have lost a lot of creditability.

Like, 1997 and 2001 happened and the Tories still exist
Very true however the only way they got back to power was Cameron being relatively centrist and modern. The problem Labour have is momentum have their claws in deep so the likes of Starmer, Phillips etc have to decide what they are going to do if another commie gets the leadership

Yeah that more than the seat count is probably what will take them a while. But these things can change surprisingly quickly with charismatic and shrewd leadership and a dose of luck.

And of course they probably need to stop listening to Twitter

It's the 2017 election that was meant to happen, two and a half years late

Saw that Johnson and the Tories are on their way to a big win, right? Is GIMH already dancing in the streets? :)
