Yeah, agreed. I remember hearing about forest mismanagement being a problem some years ago - but, I mean, it is November, and no fire is helped by consistent and unusually hot and dry conditions.

nexus between politicians, lawyers and rich criminals...horrific yes but hardly surprising right?

Vox had an in-depth article about how naive she is when it comes to spending plans etc a while ago, but does anyone give a **** about fiscal conservatism anymore? Trump most certainly does not.

I'd be astonished if she does not become president someday, her rise has been incredible.
Conservatives care when liberals come in and have to raise spending to fix the mess left to them.

They were both assholes in their own way but compared to the current guy they probably look like saints...

I don't actually get how he can be allowed to be in office with the multiple clear conflicts of interest he has.

I commend to any remaining Milo acolytes the document dump by his former Australian promoters this morning.

The good news story of the day imo.

What's wrong with her exactly? Strip away the crazy levels of heat surrounding her and she seems like a pretty normal 29 year old left-wing person to me.
She's a moron on a crusade, with power.

It's interesting. In the PCGM thread there have been several comments along the lines of "yeah this is nonsense, but it's just sillyness from annoying socialist undergrads so whatever." Now we have Annoying Socialist Undergrad: The Candidate, and the reaction is "I don't see what the big deal is". Can't imagine why a political force which harnesses the power of the state to enforce the excesses of the SJW movement might end up being a problem. 8-)

Agree a lot of the heat around her is a bit silly though. Like Trump, it only helps her profile.
Some people simply won't admit they're socialists and have to make excuses for her idiocy. The right-wing crowd take the piss out of her and rip her for what she actually is whereas with Trump the people going at him were projecting their own racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. They want her to become the spokersperson for the left, it will kill their support by dividing the liberals with the lunatic leftists.

While Trump is not a scholar or renown for his civility, he is actually a smart man and thus far his Presidency has reflected that. If AOC gets to any real position of power, like the Presidency, she will singlehandedly destroy left-wing (particularly her radical left-wing sect) credibility.

yes, left-wingers are so famous for their homophobia, and trump is a super-genius, which is why he knows more about climate change than literally all of science

words are so powerful, you can literally say anything you like if you don't care about, y'know, observable reality

Clara, a freshman in the class True was banned from, told BuzzFeed News that at first, True's "controversial" points were welcomed and prompted interesting discussions. (Her name has been changed.) Eventually, Clara said, True's arguments went from productive to "increasingly harmful and offensive." She said True upset students when he said that it was understandable that the Holocaust happened given that people are not often taught to question systems of oppression, and made other comments about race and class. But the turning point was when he refused to stop discussing his beliefs on rape, even though sexual assault survivors told him outside of class that it made them uncomfortable.

"That's when he crossed the border from his right to have his own beliefs to harassment," said Clara. She said that she never felt physically unsafe, but that she is a survivor of sexual assault and True's comments made it hard for her to concentrate in class as well as other courses.

"In response to being respectfully asked to stop, he discussed [his views] more openly and more aggressively, and just disregarded people's lived experiences," she said. "He continued to argue with people who had expressed to him that they felt unsafe and uncomfortable. He said rape culture didn't exist, but I feel like I live rape culture every day."
i mean this makes the decision pretty understandable imo. if you have one guy who keeps on saying the same **** over and over again despite being asked to stop in a conversation where sensitivity is required, then i would do the same thing in any class of mine. it honestly sounds like he was playing the edgelord troll more than anything and you can't permit that in a class.
