CW decides... the best movies of all time

I rewatched "the Thing" recently, and was oddly disappointed, not Kurt Russels best film of the era , maybe I had built up over the years from when I watched it in my teens and how it's lauded now.

I've watched 7 of Mikes list, none of them are getting in mine, certainly not the terminally dull Stalker, Solaris I can just about handle, but Stalker a bridge to far.

The short story - The Things really adds to it. Probably the best film add on text material I've ever read. The last line still makes me deeply deeply uncomfortable.

I know enough to know how disappointed how mainstream my list was to Mike's eyes.
I'm easy to please. Short of gore movies and paranormal activity stuff, I'll give just about anything a try.

I'd have more mainstream titles like The Godfather, Alien, and Lawrence of Arabia on there, but they slipped my mind. I've got LOTR fatigue from living in NZ and I was never much of a Star Wars guy though.

Lost in Translation is a good film (though it peaked in the first 30 seconds, it was all downhill from there)

Never heard of the rest
What, you didn't load up a My Bloody Valentine album and pensively look out of car windows? That really spoke to me as a teenager.

Haven't got many modern ones in, because in the end I have put the ones that have given me most joy over the years, I mean actually could see a marvel film get in one day, or Hunger Games Catching fire.

Surprised at the lack of Tremors from anyone else though, stone cold classic....

Tremors is pretty rough watching these days. Tried to get someone to watch it a year or so ago that had never seen it before and God it starts so ****ing slow.

I guess I know it'll get to be epic, so don't mind, I can watch it again and again.

In the end plenty of films used to start a bit slower, I blame MTV and video games, he mumbles and grumbles to himself like the old man he is.

When's the cutoff for submissions?

(applies to Shady Slim's TV list too fwiw)
Let's provisionally say end of July as the cut off. That should give everyone a chance to post a list who wants to but hopefully not so far off it's forgotten.

You guys are reminding me of so many films that I enjoyed yet, in my rush, overlooked on my list.
One that isn't in that category is Mike's #1 "Woman in the Dunes". I saw it at a film festival the year it was released and it confused me at the time. Perhaps now I'm a little older (and hopefully wiser) I might get a better grasp of the film.
