Sausage, bread and mustard.

If you like ketchup on a hot dog, you're disgusting.

Is the sausage within the hot dog, without the bun, also a hotdog? Or does 'hot dog' specifically refer to the combination?

Also, does it have to be that particular kind of sausage - which might be called a hot dog - to constitute a hot dog, or will any sausage in a longer-than-it-is wide bread do?

Hot dog terminology is completely confused before we even get to the sandwich business. It's a shambles.

ftr a hot dog is a sausage wrapped in tortilla - no not that fluffy bun thing that doesn't taste anything - with a bit of mustard

Sausage wrapped in a tortilla? You mean a sausage wrap? Delicious it may be, but a hot dog it most certainly is not.
